“Oh my god,” Neil exclaimed when the third red shell hit him within ten seconds after the lighting struck. “Why are you giving me such a hard time about this?”
“Because you’ve been cruising along for two whole courses and I’m done playing nice.”
Eva zipped past him on her bike as the Villager, chuckling at him with a smug smile.
“Playing nice?! Picking all my worst courses on purpose is you playing nice?!”
“Yeah, well, I could have thrown six red shells at you earlier and chose not to, so…”
“How magnanimous of you.” He busted through a row of items boxes and grabbed a Bullet Bill, thank god.
“You’ve got way more points than me for running all your worst courses, though.”
“You’ve got way more points than me–” he said mockingly, scoffing. “Did you not see how badly SNES Bowser’s Castle kicked my ass?”
“And yet you made it back to second.” She elbowed him andleaned forward on the couch, locked in to the screen. “Get good, sucker.”
“Ugh, you’re such a try-hard. I’d rather get a Blue Shell.”
“Aw, shit—” At that moment, the warning pings of anincoming Blue Shell sounded.
Eva was in first place.
“Wasn’t me!” Neil crowed, cackling, pointing to his Yoshibathed in the glow of a Star. He laughed harder as Eva immediately got chomped bya passing Piranha Plant Pot.
True, she was only in 7th place while he was stuck way back in 12th place, but it was the little things thatcounted.
