autumn is seulgi’s favorite season; it sits right at the cusp of the unbearable chill seoul is infamous for, so she can enjoy the outdoors without anything more than a light jacket and not break a single sweat.
that’s exactly what she’s doing now; ten minutes after her last class, she takes herself on a date to the park two blocks from her studio. there aren’t as many people out at this time; most people are rushing home to dinner or some other engagement, but living alone really has its perks. she has no one waiting up for her, so she can fall asleep on a park bench if she wants to. but she won’t, obviously. she still has some dignity left.
she spends the next twenty minutes brushing aside the fallen leaves with her heels, buying an onion bagel from the food trucks set out around the perimeter of the park, and feeding the ducks in the pond with the outer crust of her bagel even though there’s a sign that clearly says you’re not supposed to feed them.
it’s only when she sits down at a bench to look for her earphones so no one talks to her while she brisk walks in the middle of freaking october that she kind of feels like something isn’t right. the feeling is inexplicable, but her movements slow; one hand is partially raised towards her ear in the action of putting the bud in, but the rustling behind her is starting to become unsettling. wind is one thing, but this sounds like an animal waiting around in the bushes.
she’s able to shrug it off for a while, even making a roundtrip around the pond before moving back to the walker’s path, but the feeling of awkward discomfort only grows. her music is drowning out noise, but her chest feels heavy with the thought that she’s being watched.
so that’s one of the downsides of living alone: when she feels like she’s in trouble, she has no one to call. or even pretend to call.
“uh -- hello?” she feels like one of those stupid people in those horror movies that go down eerie basements even though there’s a set of bloody footprints across the ceiling or something. “is... anyone there? or -- you know, not...”
