A Return to Gambling Addicts Orgasms

Kakegurui XX Episode 1: “Gambling Women Again”    An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

   It’s been two years since the first season of Kakegurui, making it almost impossible to remember what happened in the lackluster first season. This first episode doesn’t help remind you either. The series jumps off with Yumeko and Midari being challenged to a gamble that involves the participant’s fingers being chopped off by a guillotine. Meanwhile, Kirai introduces the student council; who I thought she dismantled after Yumeko beat them, to new members from the Kirai Momobami clan.    I watched this episode twice, hoping that it would spark a memory of the first season. It didn’t work, instead, I was extremely confused about why this gamble was happening. The episode doesn’t start with the two girls being challenged but in the middle of the challenge. Like the beginning, half of the episode wasn't written out because the writer found it too boring.    I hate the AMV intermission that ruins the pacing of the entire episode, and introducing us to ten new characters is dumbfounding. I get why they did it. Yumeko needs new, more dangerous foes to gamble against, but the first series barely dived into the previous student council's motivations. The first series has you believing it was for power, but with the student council being abolished, there has to be a deeper reason for why they're sticking around.    Kakegurui xx's first episode gives the bare minimum of what you'd expect from Kakegurui. You get women letting out erotic moans through huge lips as they distort their faces to over the top ecstasy faces. Ridiculously risky gambles that the orgasming girl has to solve through quick thinking while knowing her opponent is cheating. If these traits are the only reason you're watching Kakegurui then you won't be let down. I personally found it to poorly written and paced.

Humble Television

Release the Spyce Episode 5: “Phantom Protocol”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    “Phantom Protocol” picks up right after the previous episode. Tsukikage is able to determine from some sand on Byakko that she worked for a company named Kyuten Science. Tsukikage is able to break into their headquarters, however, they weren’t able to find any information about them working with Moryo. The Tsukikage move on to a new target named Marco.     Marco is a young drug peddler who is caught up with the Kyuten Science company. While sabotaging Marco, Momo is attacked by a new mercenary. Momo is saved twice by her mentor which encourages her to become a better member. The episode ends with it being revealed that the Kyuten Science company has discovered the identity of one of the Tsukikage members; Hatsume     This show is harmless. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s a cute spin on the magical girl genre, however, there’s no point to this show. I went to look it up and thought it was a completely different show about magical girls. That’s how bland the show is. There’s no reason for this to exist other than appeasing magical girl fans. I guess my opinion would be different if I was a huge magical girl fan, but it just finds this show pointless.

Bonda Can’t Handle His Booze

Gurazeni: Money Pitch Episode 5: Just Between Us”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    “Just Between Us” is a pretty basic episode. Bonda has become popular after his performance in the Pennant. He is asked to appear on a radio program. Nervous Bonda decides to have sake to calm himself, however, this backfires. An intoxicated Bonda criticizes Japan’s Baseball League and shows his cheap ways.     This episode started with a good idea. I like Bonda showing his true side to his fans, even if the criticism about Climax League went right over my head. What makes this episode bad is its execution. Bonda notices that he’s out of line in the middle of the episode, but continues to run his mouth. The show says it’s because he’s drunk, but that feels like a cop-out. They showed him having one sake which I doubt will make it impossible to shut your mouth. The ending isn’t any better either.     Bonda simply sobers up out of nowhere and says it was all a joke. It isn’t only lazy, but it makes this episode mean nothing. We’re forced to watch a whole episode that has no effect on Bonda’s career or the series. This is a perfect example of poor writing. It’s a true waste of the viewers time. The music in the episode was fantastic. It tries its best to build up this sense of dread. The sludgy bass beat with the long drawn out horns makes you feel as uncomfortable as the director wanted you too. This makes it even more tragic, it shows that the real issue with the episode is the writing.

We All Know Narumi isn’t dead right.

Karakuri Circus Episode 4: “Swirling Tiger”      An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

     Episode four starts right where the previous episode ended. Masaru successfully bribes the leader of the Slaughter Team to fight his uncle. The clash goes well for Masaru until Narumi and Shirogane are trapped. Masaru gives in to his uncle’s desire to adopt him. The adoption is short-lived when the duo escape, however, the building explodes killing Narumi.      There are a few issues with this episode. One, the pacing is terrible. We’re introduced to the bomb randomly; Narumi is magically able to break out of the cage when he couldn’t a few minutes ago. Also, the feats this little kid is pulling off are amazing, but they come out of nowhere.       He’s able to control puppets without any practice. He can jump out of a huge building with only scratches, and a punch of the story feels like the writer wrote himself into a corner. All the saves occur unrealistically. It’s ruining the whole vibe of the story, which is a shame because it’s so pretty. It was shocking to see Narumi die. I know he isn’t dead. We didn’t see a dead body. It feels like an empty gesture. I guess it’ll motivate Masaru to be a better, more independent person.

Am I having a fever dream?

Tokyo Ghoul: re Episode 3: “Close Game”     An Episode Review by WillDeezer

    There isn’t much to say here. The confusing nature of the show continues. I know the CCG are attacking ghouls because it’s what they do, but I don’t know why this group of ghouls are so important to attack. I know nothing about these ghouls. It makes it hard to care for them when the show tries to get me to.     The episode wasn’t complete garbage, though. We find out about Owl’s past and why he’s so deranged. We finally saw the man behind all of the ghoul experiments. We are shown his extreme methods of creating new half ghouls. The only issue I have with it is that it is happening so fast. I have no clue why the professor is creating an army of half ghouls. We also see Amon for the first time. He’s now a half-ghoul as well. I have no clue when that happened. I hate to say this; because I liked the first Tokyo Ghoul, but you could skip this show. It isn’t giving us any answers here. I think it would be more serviceable to read the manga.

Poorly Budgeted Exposition Dump

Golden Kamuy Episode 3: “Let’s Talk About the Past.”      An Episode Impression by WillDeezer

     The title for this episode is dead on. We spend the majority of the episode exploring Hijikata and Nagakura’s past. I guess Hijikata saved Nagakura when he decided to desert the Shinsengumi. This protection is what leads Nagakura back to Hijikata’s side. Other than that, we got to see how guilty Shiraishi feels about giving information about Sugimoto’s group. Well, guilt might not be the right word. He fears Sugimoto’s reaction more than anything.      “Let’s Talk About the Past” was a fine episode. Not a lot happened in general, but the episode is able to give us motivations for Hijikata’s group and bonds. It makes Sugimoto’s rivals more fleshed out and feel like real people. On a sour note though, the animation was bad for the most part. I was surprised by this. I would assume that the show would save up a budget for the action scenes, especially since it was only the first ten minutes of the episode.

Little Girl Ninja

Release the Spyce Episode 3: “Moryo”     An Episode Impression by WillDeezer

    Episode 3 follows Momo on her first few missions with Tsukikage as they try to give information on an evil organization called Moryo. The first two mission ends in failure as Momo goes off on her own to achieve their goals. She is scolded for her failures but is able to win them back in the final mission of the episode. Momo is able to capture a member of Moryo while getting information about them as well.      You know, this episode wasn’t bad for how boring it was. The episode works when showing that Momo is still trying to get her footing as a member of Tsukikage. The narrative works, but the execution is a slog. I hold myself bored through most of it. The fights at the end weren’t able to save the episode. I thought the same with the last episode as well. I think Release the Spyce is doing good when it comes to the direction of the story, there’s just something there that isn’t clicking. There’s no chemistry.

Studio Trigger is Slipping

SSSS. Gridman Episode 3: “Defeat”     An Episode Impression by WillDeezer

    Studio Trigger is circling the drain. This is the second series in 2018 that has failed. This episode was bad, like really bad. The pacing to the episode is botched. Events are happening quickly with no explanation. I’m against an exposition dump like the next man, but a little context could go a long way. Like, how was Gridman able to restore himself? What are the Kaiju? Are they humans? Models? I don’t fucking know.     The line, “Kaijus are kaijus,” explains what is seriously wrong with this series. It’s lazy. The pacing of this story is all over the place. The animation looks terrible with Studio Trigger reusing attack animations. There feels like the minimum amount of effort was put into this show, which is made even worse when notice there isn’t any charm to this show. Studio Trigger runs on their charm and we get nothing. Just skip this series man. There’s nothing good here.
