“A Man Eater From Outer Space.”

Boogiepop and Others Episode 2: “Boogiepop and Others 2”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

     A teenage girl with glasses; named Seuma, stares tranquility out of her high school windows after her class ends. She is approached by one of her friends who invite her to walk home with her. The two students walk a slim concrete path that’s surrounded by grass as Seuma’s friend is attacked by a girl named Nagi. Nagi yanks her fellow student's arm into the air and calls her a manticore. Her friend threatens to rip off her arm if the Manticore doesn’t come out.       The episode cuts to a long-haired man devouring a high school girl as a student named Masami watches his body bubble and morph into the form of the girl he’d eaten. The series reveals that Masami and the manticore have been teaming up to create slaves of the high school girls. The manticore is able to plant a portion of his power into the girls through a kiss. The power he instills in them is a power that causes the girls to leak blue liquid that forms into pills. The girls give the pills to their friends to sedate them.      The series goes back to the Nagi and Seuma as Seuma finds that Nagi’s father is an author of novels she loves. We get another hard jump cut to an unknown woman who finds a long white-haired man that looks very similar to the Manticore’s original form The man informs the woman on whom he is, he tells her he is an alien who was caught by a mysterious corporation that cloned him and called him Echoes.       Boogiepop and Others didn’t skimp on the information, to a detriment. Getting information on the Manticore was great, but the creators could have left the fact he’s a clone until later episodes. It would've been a great way to dilute the amount of plot we’re given. The rush of details makes it feel like their trying to rush the Manticore’s arc. Not everything is bad though, the animation was solid though the majority of the episode consists of talking.       The relationship between Manticore and Masami is very interesting. To watch their relationship blossom into a romantic one is bizarre. The affection the Manticore shows for Masami is a great way to add depth to the villain. It shows how the Manticore can adapt more emotions than hunger.

It's Like Going to Your Grandpa’s Funeral With No Pants On.

The Promised Neverland Episode 1: “121045”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

     The Promised Neverland starts off just as depressing as seeing your dog’s entrails spread across the highway after the car that hit it dragged his body a half-mile. The episode starts by introducing us to an orphanage helmed by a woman the kids call Mother. The kids are forced to take tests where three kids named Emma, Norman, and Ray. The kids play a game of tag where the three students show off why they're the best.      One night, a six-year-old girl named Conny is adopted. Mother takes her in the middle of the night. Emma and Norman notice that Conny has forgotten her favorite stuff rabbit. Determined it isn’t too late, Emma and Norman decided to break the rules and pass the gate to give her the stuffed animal.      The pair rolls onto a truck where they find Conny’s dead body, After hiding under the truck, they hear monsters talking about how everyone in the orphanage is raised to become their food. Norman and Emma escape, declaring that they will come up with a plan that will escape from the orphanage with everyone in toll.      The first thing you’ll notice about this show is the suffocating atmosphere. The series knows when to remove the music to let the creepiness of the scene linger. The scene where the inch towards Conny’s body is a master class in building suspense. It helps that the animation is gorgeous as well. The colors of Emma's hair are bright and lively matching her personality.       I can’t say the same for the voice cast, though. I watched the dub and it isn’t good. A huge chunk of the lines are delivered very poorly. You can hear certain actors putting on a voice, making the character sound unbelievable. So, I’d suggest going with the original subtitled version. Other than the English dub, this episode was good.       It does a great job of introducing the conflict in a short amount of time. We know the character’s goals, and who is going to oppose them. It feels like it could become a great series like Kanji; where we focus more on a battle of wits rather than a battle of muscles. I’m pretty excited to watch the next episode.

Someone’s Got A Case of the Hero Syndrome

Revisions Episode One: “Shibuya Transfer”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    Revisions is an anime created by a studio named Shirogumi. A production company I haven’t heard of; however, it is directed Goro Taniguichi though, who happens to be a great director. Shows like Mobile Suit G Gundam or S-cry-ed were my shit when I was a teenager. His attachment to those series encouraged me to dive into this one.     Revisions start off with a voice-over from our main character named Daisuke Dojima. Daisuke explains an event that happened to him and his friends when they were children. The past event evolved him being kidnapped. The kidnapper calls his friends asking them to come to get him alone. He warns them not to tell their parents or call the cops if they do, he will kill Daisuke.    Daisuke is saved by a girl named Milo, who informs him that danger will befall their world and Daisuke is the only one who can save them.      Jump to the future and Daisuke has taken Milo’s words to heart. He constantly works out, waiting for his moment to shine. Trouble comes with his hero complex, though; it causes him to act first and those actions have isolated him from his old friends. Daisuke tries to convince his friends that Milo’s prophecy is real, but he doesn’t have to convince them for long because a giant robot comes out of the ground and starts killing students.      No amount of preparation can help Daisuke when faced with the robot. He freezes as the robot attacks his friends, luckily Milo shows up to save the two students before the robot is able to attack. Milo isn’t able to defeat it with her current weapon, causing Daisuke to beg for help. She takes Daisuke aside to give him his own robot called a String Puppet. Daisuke suits up as the episode comes to an end.      Man, that was a lot to recall. I don’t remember it feeling that heavy while I was watching it. The episode went by pretty quickly. It was coherent as well. It does a good job of explaining what was going on while leaving the audience with questions that still need to be answered in future episodes. The first episode wasn’t the most original thing, but it was well-written and well-executed.       I’m not sure about the animation, though. I didn’t think it was bad; just different. I’m not sure what to think of them yet. I’m sure my opinion will change when I watch more episodes. I was surprised to see the blood and the murdering of students. I didn’t think this series would be that graphic. This show has started out with some great potential. There are parts of it I like, however, I see a lot of things not to like about it. I just hope it can maintain being interesting for future episodes.

Shirogane’s First Female Friend

Karakuri Circus Episode 7: “Demonic”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    Narumi finishes his fight with the automata before approaching Guy. He decides that he’ll join Guy, declaring he’ll continue to fight as long as he needs to cure the ZONAPHA syndrome. Jump back to Masaru and Shirogane as they try to earn money to get their new circus started. While performing some tricks, Shirogane is approached by an American woman named Vilma. The two quickly become friends over a conversation about the ZONAPHA syndrome. The friendship isn’t destined to last long because Vilma was hired to kill young Masaru.      The fight between Vilma and Shirogane doesn’t last even shorter than their friendship. Shirogane easily overpowers Vilma, knocking her out. Masaru refuses to let her kill Vilma, so they bring her back to wrap her wounds. After a conversation between Vilma and Shirogane, she decides to join the new circus as a knife thrower.      This episode wasn’t too bad. It’s nice to see Shirogane starting to enjoy conversations with other people. Shirogane becomes friends with Vilma and joining the circus is a great, low key way of evolving her passed being a puppet. Shirogane’s character growth was the best part of the episode. The fight scene wasn’t as good, though.      Narumi’s fighting scene at the beginning of the episode was amazing. Narumi’s movements were fluid and quick giving some real force behind his punches. The fight also does a decent job of showing off his new powers.          Shirogane and Vilma’s fight was nowhere near as good. The fight is Vilma throwing daggers into Shirogane’s body before she knocks her out. They show that Shirogane has a healing ability too. I don’t remember them mentioning that in the previous episodes.

The Weirdest Anime I’ve Seen in a Long Time

Kemurikusa Episode One     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    Kemurikusa, Kemurikusa, what the hell are you? I have no idea why I choose this show. Maybe, it was the mystery of the series. I couldn’t find any information about the series other than the promotional poster. I liked the isolated red girl in the center of an all-black background. It looked very theatrical and dramatic. It made the series feel like it was going to have a very mature take on storytelling, but man, I had no clue what I was getting into.     Kemurikusa features a group of CGI girls who’re living in a remote area. They seemed to be low on resources, spending the majority of the episode looking for food and fighting off ‘red bugs’ with leaves from a tree that grows in their home base. Their daily routine is interrupted when a messy-haired boy named Wakaba appears in their drinking water. Unsure if he’s a good guy or a bad guy, the team ties him up. He is able to earn their trust by risking his life to save one of the girls.     First off, this show is ugly, hideous. You can tell that they are modeled characters standing on a still background. The characters look so unnatural in their environment. Their hands clip through items they’re interacting with. The character models have messed up themselves. They move very stiffly, and their colors look so unnatural in every scene.     There’s a charm to this show, I won’t deny it. I like the way the show withholds information to make you come up with your own guesses. The character models move terribly, but the designs of the characters are cute. It’s only the execution that's so bad. I would recommend skipping this one, but I think I’m going to watch the next one. I’m curious to see where the episode is going.

A Return to Gambling Addicts Orgasms

Kakegurui XX Episode 1: “Gambling Women Again”    An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

   It’s been two years since the first season of Kakegurui, making it almost impossible to remember what happened in the lackluster first season. This first episode doesn’t help remind you either. The series jumps off with Yumeko and Midari being challenged to a gamble that involves the participant’s fingers being chopped off by a guillotine. Meanwhile, Kirai introduces the student council; who I thought she dismantled after Yumeko beat them, to new members from the Kirai Momobami clan.    I watched this episode twice, hoping that it would spark a memory of the first season. It didn’t work, instead, I was extremely confused about why this gamble was happening. The episode doesn’t start with the two girls being challenged but in the middle of the challenge. Like the beginning, half of the episode wasn't written out because the writer found it too boring.    I hate the AMV intermission that ruins the pacing of the entire episode, and introducing us to ten new characters is dumbfounding. I get why they did it. Yumeko needs new, more dangerous foes to gamble against, but the first series barely dived into the previous student council's motivations. The first series has you believing it was for power, but with the student council being abolished, there has to be a deeper reason for why they're sticking around.    Kakegurui xx's first episode gives the bare minimum of what you'd expect from Kakegurui. You get women letting out erotic moans through huge lips as they distort their faces to over the top ecstasy faces. Ridiculously risky gambles that the orgasming girl has to solve through quick thinking while knowing her opponent is cheating. If these traits are the only reason you're watching Kakegurui then you won't be let down. I personally found it to poorly written and paced.

“Your Little Ice Queen.”

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens     An Anime Review by WillDeezer

    Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens is an anime that ran during the winter of 2018. The series is based on a series of light novels of the same name by Chiaki Kisaki. The anime production is handled by Satelight (Fairy Tail/Log Horizon) and licensed by Crunchyroll. Kenji Yasuda (Shugo Chara!/ Sousei no Aquarion Evol) handles directing while Shogo Yasukawa writes and Kotaro Nakagawa composes the music.      Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens focuses on a city called Fukuoka. A city filled to the brim with criminals. In the city, we have corrupt cops, murders and a business that seeks revenge for weaker people. We join the adventures of a cross-dressing mercenary named Lin Xianming as she/he gets an assignment to kill a private investigator named Zenji Banba. Lin fails to kill Zenji and finds out that his boss is double-crossing her/him. This leads to Zenji and Lin teaming up to take down her/his ex-boss.     The story of Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens isn’t bad. It starts out strong, but quickly loses steam when it spends more time introducing new characters instead of moving along the plot. This makes the middle drag. The series is able to get out of its funk and restore some tension, but it isn’t returned until episode seven. So, don’t expect to get your payoffs without being patient.

    Luckily, most of the characters are interesting. It helps to ease the boring parts of the series. Zenji is a badass who has a homoerotic relationship with Lin. Lin is a badass herself/himself, using knives to kill anyone that gets in his/her way. I’m a huge fan of the tech-savvy Enokida’s backstory. The characters are well written, but their designs aren’t as good. Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens goes for a more realistic approach, but all of the designs are truly forgettable.     What isn’t boring though, is the music. I’m in love with Kotaro Nakagawa’s score here. He does a nice job of blending jazz and piano music for comedic or dramatic effect. There was a track in episode three that I find myself humming randomly. The series has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in an anime since Samurai Champloo. It doesn’t matter if you watch the show, you should do yourself a favor and listen to a few tracks from it. 

    Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens has the same pitfalls that most anime are victims of. There are several corners cut that cause characters to move stiffly or have dead faces. The stand out is the lighting, though. The lighting in the series stands out masterfully. There a scene of the sun lighting the room as Lin and Zenji eat ramen that I love.     Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens is a solid watch. The animation is average, and the pacing is a bit off. The negatives are balanced out with a great soundtrack and characters. It’s a bonus if you are a baseball fan because of the heavy focus on the sport. I say give the series, a watch. It isn’t going to be the next big classic, but it is worth your time, nonetheless.

Magical Girl Escapades

Pastel Memories Episode 1: “Welcome to the Rabbit Shed Shop”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    The first episode of Pastel Memories spends its time introducing the Rabbit Shed Shop, the girls who work there and the world they live in. In Pastel Memories, manga, anime and action figures were discontinued. The discontinuation of otaku culture has lead to its disappear from modern society. With manga and anime disappearing from the lives of the people who love them, one shop tries to preserve the memories of the creators.      Enter the Rabbit Shed Shop. The employees of the shop have decided to devote their time to preserving the memories of past otaku culture, by getting manga their customers enjoy reading. The girls spend most of the episode traversing the remaining otaku stores looking for a manga that their customer wishes to read. After finding six out of seven volumes, three girls transport from the grandfather clock into the store.       The first episode of Pastel Memories was good. The characters were interesting, though some of them are generic. Like the Russian who loves guns or the cat girl who uses constant cat puns. The animation to the series was good too. It has bright vibrant colors with very expressive faces and body movements. The series uses their animation for great storytelling elements.      There was a great scene showing Izumi's memories like she's watching ghosts relive her past life. I did find the premise hard to get into at first. It wasn't until the end of the episode where we find out a virus is destroying these classic mangas and the girls must adventure into them to save them from being deleted.       This episode wanted to advert you from what the show was about. It wanted to hide the fact that it’s a cute girl shounen. The episode did a great job at it. I'm very excited to see where the show goes. If we can get a bizarre adventure series like Flip Flappers, that would lead to a very interesting series. I am looking forward to the next episode.

Daddy Demon Pact

Dororo Episode 1: “The Story of Daigo”      An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

     A terrible part about being so far behind in seasonal animation is I get to hear about all the great anime before they're released.I was excited to watch Dororo. I’ve heard the massive hype surrounding the show and the manga. Osamu Tezuka is known as the father of manga and though I have read through some of Black Jack, it could never hold my attention. No amount of clout could keep me from thinking the series was dated. Yes, he created these tropes, but they’re still tropes, nonetheless. That’s why my excitement so peaked for this series. A modern twist on a classic could open my eyes to the merits of a classic work.      Sadly, this “The Story of Daigo” didn’t do it for me. The pacing was all over the place. It crudely split the episode between a samurai named Daigo and a young thief named Dororo. If the Mappa would've chosen to pick Dororo or Daigo as the main focus. Skipping between the two doesn't allow either one of them to shine. I feel like plotlines and motivations could be clear with more attention paid to one or the other.      Other than the pacing, the episode wasn't a complete failure. Dororo is a rambunctious and crafty youth who could become an interesting man when given the right guidance. The animation was great, especially the fight scene with the sludge monster. The pacing was terrible, but I'm going to watch the next episode. There's a possibility that the show could become something good if it decides to stop rushing the story.

Not One For Theatrics

Mob Psycho 100: Season 2 Episode 1: “Ripped Apart, Someone is Waiting”     An Episodic Review by WillDeezer

    The long-awaited Mob Psycho returns for it the second season in glorious explosive colors. Mob Psycho wastes no time returning to the action. The first half of the episode is spent showing the dynamic between Reigen and Mob hasn’t changed much. Mob still exorcists spirits for Reigen. It would seem that Mob realizes Reigen isn’t as strong as he once imagined. Another change is that Reigen is paying Mob for his services.     The second part of the episode focuses on a committee called the Psycho Helmet Club. The committee believes that Mob is their founder and destined leader. However, they don’t believe he’s grown enough as an individual to lead them. This causes one of the members; Emi, to go on a journey to help Mob grow. The plan ends up dwindling as the episode goes on, showing that Mob might be more mature than he lets on.      The animation to this episode was bright, pretty and over the top. Remaining the viewer why the first season was so good. The action portion of the show was fluid, showing us that Bones is a fantastic studio, however, the plot part of the story was kind of weak. I don’t remember anything in the first one and it was hard to jump right back in.     It felt weird to have Mob take a backseat in this episode since it was his big return. To focus on the member of Psycho Helmet member, Emi was a bit shocking. I barely remember her or the committee during the first part. All in all, the episode was good. I wish we would've got more action and more Mob, but more of the series is better than none.

Narumi Finds A Cause

Karakuri Circus Episode 6: “Hell”     An Anime Impression by WillDeezer

    Episode 6 picks up where the six left off. We start with Narumi waking up in a hospital with a new arm. He’s introduced to the two people who rescued in Japan. One is a womanizing man by the name of Guy, and the other is an old lady named Lucile. They inform Narumi that he’s in a hospital that focuses on curing the ZONAPHA syndrome.     Narumi is told to relax, to focus on eating well and getting to know the children. Narumi does exactly that, he finds himself becoming good friends with the kids. Everything starts to fall apart when he finds out the effects of the ZONAPHA on the kids. Guy asks Narumi to help him defeat the automata; who he’s told, “spread the disease.” The automata attack the hospital in hopes of killing Guy. The episode ends with Narumi deciding to help.     This episode was a bit of an exposition dump. I can’t hate the episode for it though, because I wanted to know what the ZONAPHA syndrome was. They could’ve doled out the information little by little though it would hurt the narrative. This series is a Shonen show, which prefers to focus on action and fast-paced storytelling.     Another great aspect of the episode is the questions it brings up. How is Narumi able to become an adult with the ZONAPHA syndrome when all the other victims are children who go in a corpse-like state? What are Guy and Lucile getting out of stopping the syndrome? These are small questions I’m excited to have answered.

“I’m This Worlds Possibility.”

Boogiepop and Others Episode One: “Boogiepop and Others 1”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

     A high school student by the name Seiji waits for his girlfriend named Miyashita Touka. He waited hours before heading up to the roof. He finds her standing in a weird costume as she looks out over the scenery. Upset, Seiji confronts her, wondering why she didn’t show up. Miyashita turns to Seiji with a cold face and tells him that she isn’t Miyashita, but Boogiepop. Boogipop informs Seiji that she’s taken over Miyashita because a monster is hiding in the body of a student, and she plans on killing it.     The series cuts to the next day, where Seiji hears that four girls have gone missing. The rumors circulating around the school believe that Boogiepop takes over young girl’s bodies when they're at the height of their beauty and kills them before they turn ugly. Seiji returns to the roof to talk to Boogiepop, worrying about the fate of his friend.      She somberly looks over the scenery again as she informs him that she’s killed the monster she was looking for. After a good-bye, Boogiepop disappoints during their conversation. Seiji is left on the roof alone, wondering if they'll ever meet again.     I was unsure of what to name this series. I saw three different titles, but I decided to go with this one. Anyway, this episode wasn’t half bad, the episode hints at themes of humanity. On the way, we're living our lives without empathy towards other humans. It’s an idea that has been explored by other media, but I feel there’s still some creativity that can be milked from the idea.     I wasn’t a big fan of the monster being defeated in the background of the episode. I can understand the creators wanting to focus on the themes of the series more than action. It shows their trying to put more empathizes on the theme rather than action, however, a good fight scene would have helped break up the dreary atmosphere. A fight scene could have been great to show off the level of animation we’re going to get with this series. Completely avoiding a fight scene makes it feel like the show is going to be a series of static shots.

Top 50 Hits The Weeknd “Heartless”     A Pop Review by WillDeezer

    The Weeknd started out as this unique, soulful singer with a scarred background that was caused by a tedious habit of self-destructive behavior. The Weeknd went on through the years; he has lost some of his edge. His personality comes off as a persona more than his real self and his music has become glossy, almost predictable in his later albums. This is the case with his newest single too.       I must admit, I bought into The Weeknd when he first came out. His first compilation album, Trilogy had some great songs like “Wicked Games”, “The Birds Pt. 1 & 2" and “The Knowing.”I seriously believe that Trilogy was one of the defining alternative R&B albums that caused the genre to shoot into the mainstream. With all this praise I’ve given The Weeknd you’d think I’m a fan, however, that isn’t the case.      “Heartless” is an over glossed piece of club trash that sounds like every other song he has come out with in the last three years. Drab and long synth notes over a pumping, distorted bassline. If you liked Starboy, I could see you enjoying the instrumentation to this one. I can’t say I’m into it, though. It sounds so dreamy and robotic. The beat might be electronic, but it still feels more authentic than the lyrics.     First off, the lyrics to the chorus are lazy. He uses the song title eight times in every chorus. Twenty-four heartless if you don’t count the ones he peppers in the verses. I know he’s calling himself heartless because he lost the girl he loves. It a typically masculine way to hide your feelings of being rejected and alone. This is why he feels so fake.     It might be a clever way to call attention to the fact that most African American artists or men can’t show their true feelings because of the fear of appearing weak. I don’t think that is true here, though. The Weeknd has painted himself into a corner with his popularity. He isn’t able to experiment with his music anymore due to the fear of failing.

I hate, haTE, HATE This Show

As Miss Beelzebub Likes Episode 6: “9 Centimeters/Her Highness’s Secret”     An Episodic Review by WillDeezer

    I hate, haTE, HATE this show. It’s so boring. I could barely pay attention to this series. Beelzebub’s secret is that she is afraid of lighting. The only reason to watch this series is the animation. It has this cool, watercolor type art style that reminds me of ACCA 13. Other than the animation, there’s no reason to watch this. The story is boring and monotonous. I don’t understand why Beelzebub and Mullen are into each other. I suggest you skip this man. It fails as a romance anime, it fails as a taboo anime, and most of all, it fails as an anime.

Tokyo Ghoul: re Season Two Episode Six: “FACE: Effulgence”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    Tokyo Ghoul: re doesn’t lag in the ghoul slaying. The series spends no time throwing the CCG into another battle. A new group of Ghouls called the Clowns decides to attack the CCG after hearing of Kisho Arima death. The new captain comes up with the idea of making Suzuya the new Arima. Suzuya accepts the proposal and the team decides to take the battle to the Clowns. They manage to kill off a tiny car full of clowns before they find out that most of them are human.     With the threat of politics trying to take CCG down for the murders. The new captain proclaims the only way to redeem themselves is to genocide all ghouls in Tokyo. The captain introduces a new squad as he beheads a gaggle of captured Clown members. CCG rejoice in their new goal as the episode comes to a close.       Pierrot is like smallpox was to Native Americans. The production company has taken something full of life and withers it down to a shell of what it once was. You can tell that there's a complex, but understandable story that's been handled like a virgin with a condom. The series focuses more on fighting, making the series rushed and confusing.       The constant stream of fighting utterly destroys the story and its stakes. Several characters are dying, new factions are being created, but all we get is thin dialogue to connect one fight to another. I think if Tokyo Ghoul: re was handled by a different production company. We might have got a political thriller with great fight scenes. Instead, we get this insulting mess that Pierrot forced out in between Black Clover seasons.

A Little Kink in the Arrow

Golden Kamuy Episode 6: “Ani Nekko”     An Episodic Impression by WillDeezer

    Episode six was a great episode. We spend the majority of time watching Genjirou tell Lt. Tsurumi why he joined the 7th Division. He starts with a story about him meeting a friend named Kenkichi. They quickly come friends, before Kenichi married his sister. A few months later, Genjirou hears that their hut has burned down. He finds the hut alright burnt like a contestant on Your Momma. Genjirou finds that his sister was stabbed in the heart before the fire had started. Pissed, Genjirou hears that Kenichi has joined the 7th Division. Genjirou joins in hopes of getting revenge for his sister.     There’s more to the story, but I don’t want to ruin it. I feel like doing that would be a disservice to the episode. This episode was quite good. The flashback comes out of nowhere like manic depression, but the contents make it easier to swallow. Genjirou has always been a straight forward character. It was nice to get a little background for him. It makes him feel like a real person. I think episodes like this show why Golden Kamuy is a good show.

    Episode six starts out with a familiar face returning to Hatsume’s life. Theresia Ray is a childhood friend who disappeared from Hatsume life when she was a kid. The episode switches between their present and past. In the present, Tsukikage is positive Theresia is part of Moryo. The team decides to keep an eye on her though, Hatsume assures them that she can get convinces Theresia to leave Morya.     In the past, we find out that Hatsume was a rich girl. She met Theresia after she tried to steal food from her. Lonely, she decided that Theresia would become her friend. The two start to bond over an unnamed amount of time until they’re kidnapped. Hatsume’s parents are able to come up with the money for the ransom. Hatsume swears she will return and save Theresia. Things don’t go as planned as Theresia is sold before Hatsume’s parents are able to gather up the money for Theresia's freedom. This betrayal causes Theresia to lose trust in everyone.      Though we're told about Hatsume and Theresia friendship. We're barely shown what makes them friends. The most we get is a montage of them sharing food and laughing. It makes their whole friendship feel unimportant like the writer didn't see their friendship as an important part of Hatsume’s story. The only real value we're shown over their friendship is Hatsume’s insistence that they have a friendship.     I want to praise the show from distancing itself from Momo's training. Her training with her sensei has started to become stale in the last few episodes. The series would've benefited more if it focused on why Hatsume became a ninja instead of a passing friendship that seemed to last only months. It just feels like a missed opportunity to flesh out the character.
