palaeoart This is a timelapse video of this weekend's preparation of the upper skull of an Eporeodon - an extinct cow-sized oreodont mammal which lived around 30 million years ago. This was found in the White River formations of Pennington county, South Dakota. Oreodonts were early herbivorous Artiodactyls (even-toed ungulates) which also include pigs, camels, hippos, deer and whales. This prep took about 4hrs in total - not easy to condense into a 1min vid. It's a pretty nice skull but shame that the front of the skull never survived as that would normally have shown some very large fang-like canines.
