So basically, I imagine that most other variables and numbers live in the city next to the equation playground

seen here.

And I do think that X had originally lived in the city before coming to the playground, in this possible au that they were friends with y. Maybe they had met through a store or had met in a park of some kind, but I am choosing to believe they were pretty old friends by the time X set off for the grasslands! And at some point in that time, y developed a crush on X. Then when X left, thats when the yearning began, seen in my previous y post. I might develop on Xy a bit more in the future, so lmk if you guys want to see it happen!
