WHAT IS EQUIFUSE?
Equifuse is a beautiful line of equine grooming products widely used in the Gypsy Horse community, as well as many other aspects of the horse world. Equifuse utilizes a “system” of products using only natural ingredients to clean, moisturize, and condition the hair and coat.
WHICH PRODUCTS DO WE USE?
While every team and farm probably has their own preferences, here are the products we here at Blackwood Gypsy Horses, and the Starfire Gypsy Horses team, use most often:
- CFS - Concentrate + Paste Shampoo
CFS is an awesome shampoo. As you can tell from the name, it is highly concentrated, so you only need a tiny bit to bath the WHOLE horse. The directions on the container say to dilute a small amount in a bucket of water, but generally, we use a foaming sprayer attachment for the hose. This gets used for the overall clean of the whole horse: body, neck, mane, tail, legs, feather, and face! It is sulfate-free, non-drying, and very gentle on sensitive skin, but cuts the grime exceedingly well.
- Gleam - Moisturizer + Shine Serum
Gleam is a lifesaver for the hairy Gypsy owner. It is Macadamia Nut and Vitamin E oil based, so it is lovely for softening hair and restoring its health. It is also very good for detangling the rats’ nests that some horses insist on making their manes and tails into. We use Gleam primarily on manes and tails, although I personally love to use it on the feather occasionally as well. Plus it smells incredible.
- Rehydrinse - 1-Step Coat Protector + Conditioner
Rehydrinse is truly AMAZING stuff. It is a concentrated conditioner formulate specifically for the horse’s coat. That being said, we use it mostly on the mane and tail, mixed with Gleam. I also like to use it on feather and in a spray bottle for a conditioning all-over spritz.
- Shine - Perfect + Shine Spray
This is a finishing spray that we use just before going into a class at shows. It leaves a light sheen on the coat, without feeling sticky and greasy like many similar products. It certainly deserves its name!
