Zia was a mess. She was too ready to bite, had too-steady a trigger finger and a temper that burned too hot, too soon. Even now as he took her down the fields of Kadara, he imagined her gasping to life, pulling out her pistol, and cursing him straight to Hell--she’d rather rot in the blistering sun than be touched by him again. But it wasn’t her call. Reyes stopped near the edge of a lake and set her down. Damn, this was not part of the plan.
Something rustling caught his attention. His hand twitched for his rifle, but the sound was familiar. He saw Ryder coming close.
“Never a dull moment, is there?” He sighed, but he wasn’t looking for an answer. “Hate to say it, but I thought you’d be on your way by now.”

❛ do all humans have ai in their heads ? ❜ he leans his gaze forward, chin bowing, eyes such a cool calmness, calculation slicking in the blacks of them, that the question falls somewhere near accusation.
❛ or just you ? ❜

Sloane Kelly watched the Pathfinder depart through narrowed eyes. The moment the woman was out the door, she activated her omni-tool, punched in a number. After a moment, the call was answered with a cheerful, “Heyup!”
Sloane grimaced, but said nothing of the informal greeting. “Rose. Ryder. Human Pathfinder. Keep an eye on her.”
The other woman laughed. “So a Pathfinder did show up? Sure. Anything in particular I should be watching for?”
Sloane scowled. “You know your job. Do it.”
An hour later, Lily Rose found herself in the Badlands. She fought off a handful of outlaws who thought her pistol and her armor looked suitably impressive. Then at last, the Pathfinder had finished in the slums, and emerged from the Warden’s office. Lily watched for a moment, then headed further into the Badlands, while keeping a close eye on which direction the Pathfinder might be heading.
It didn’t take long for the Pathfinder and company to run into trouble. A quick assessment of their gear and their stances suggested to Lily that they could easily handle themselves... but where was the fun in that? With a shout, and a flare of biotics, she charged into the midst of the outlaws, asari sword in one hand, pistol in the other, and quickly dealt with the outlaws herself. With that done, she holstered both sword and pistol, and turned to face the Pathfinder.
“Hope you don’t mind the intrusion,” she said. “I was bored. Kelly merely asked me to watch you. Didn’t say it had to be from a distance. And let’s be honest, distance really isn’t my style.” She offered a hand to the Pathfinder, and lowered her voice. “Lily Rose. Nexus Security, under Kandros. You need anything, I’m here to help so long as it doesn’t blow my cover.”
