can we pleeeease please please stop excluding photographers, 3D/graphic artists, culinary artists, and every other type of artist besides fanartists from our anti-repost culture on here? can we please stop letting uncredited, reposted artwork gain hundreds of thousands of notes just because its not fandom-related?
people on here (especially other artists) are pretty good about not giving attention to and calling out art theft when it comes to fanart. it's basically common courtesy at this point, so it's frustrating to me that the same people will reblog stolen photography, 3D renders, etc. without a second thought. as if it's just Content that appeared out of thin air, instead of artwork that another artist worked hard to create, just like a 2D illustrator would. as if erasing artists' hard work is fine as long as it's not our kind of art.
what makes it extra frustrating is peoples' attitudes toward AI. people will go on about how much they hate AI because it steals artists' work and yet be perfectly fine doing the same (or allowing it to happen) to their fellow artists just because they use a different medium? i know so many people on here are concerned about not reblogging AI slop and yet this is also partly why so many AI images slip under the radar with thousands of notes. everyone is already so accustomed to mindlessly reblogging pretty pictures with no caption or credit that it doesn't even raise any red flags when the image is AI generated.
check the notes, check the OP, reverse image search, save the post elsewhere to search for later if you really must. it takes a few seconds to a few minutes at most and if you're on tumblr, you have the time. and if you still can't find anything then you don't need to reblog. at worst, your blog (and possibly your followers' blogs) will simply have one (1) less pretty stolen image on it and the reposter will get that much less engagement. and at best, who knows, you may just find your new favorite photographer, 3D artist, fashion designer, baker, etc and you get to share their art with the rest of your followers.
