2 accidental self-inflicted gunshots.
1 thumb cut off.
1 pinky toe severed and dangling by a hope and a prayer.
A man screaming at me because I cut his wedding ring off instead of letting him lose a finger.
A teenager swallowed a lightbulb on a bet (you’d be surprised how many patients are in the ED as the result of a bet).
A little boy ran over his sister with one of those electronic cars and she, aged 4, kicked his ass. He had a split lip and two black eyes.
A man with severe syncope getting upset when I told him he couldn’t daven or else he’d pass out so he stood to daven and proceeded to pass out.
A pregnant 49 year old IYH.
An elderly senile woman with the strength of a bull, offering my nurses sexual favors in exchange for drugs from the ADC.
AND - we had med students on rotation and one of them was so excited and really thought she wanted to go into emergency medicine and then a child proceeded to throw up on her so after a few hours she decided that maybe this wasn’t the specialty for her.
It’s certainly not for everyone 😅😮💨
