on the website of my local animal shelter there's a lost cockatoo. I think he might be better at an avian rescue bc toos and all. I'm going to the shelter later today and I'm gonna ask them about it. Is there anything else I can do to get him home?

aside from asking the shelter if there’s anything you can do, putting up signs or word of mouth are about as much as we can do.  If the animal shelter hasn’t yet you could ask them to check for a leg band or scan for a chip in their breast, otherwise you just have to hope that the owner checks their website or calls and asks.

I got my injured birdie to the vet earlier and a vet tech looked for blood feathers(initial at-home diagnosis) but they said it was likely from if he had whacked his wing against the cage (an odd place for that), was molting heavily(maybe but the type of injury seemed odd for molting) or plucking (but I cant identify any triggers for that). his wings were red under the feathers but there was no blood on the outside. I cant get a pic now but do you have any ideas as to what could have happened?

An avian vet is going to be the best one to tell you that, could just have agitated skin from something, been over preening one area, or could be bruising or something else internal like a broken blood vessel. I can’t possibly know what happened since I wasn’t present in the situation/ am not a vet.

I have to take a budgie to the vet later today (injury so not contagious) and because the nearest avian vet is an hour away there's going to be a lot of time spent in the carrier. Is it okay to bring his bonded other half (budgie) to decrease stress?

I would say that it depends on the situation, if they’re in the same cage and not tamed/ socialized when the vet goes in they’ll scatter and may cause more injury to the bird while the vet tries to get a hold of the right bird. If the birds are both fine with other people reaching in to get them then it’d probably be alright since they wouldn’t scatter however the other bird may also try to interact with the injured one in the cage and accidentally cause further injury.  Overall it’s best to only bring one so the trip goes a lot quicker, makes the vets job easier, and the bird can get home with less stress faster, either that or bring the other one in a separate cage.

are watercolors safe for birds? not to eat or anything but one of my birds just walked through some wet watercolors. I washed her foot off but is there anything else I should be worried about?

As long as it’s been thoroughly washed off it should be alright but paints are generally toxic so if there’s anything on their scales still it could cause problems if he eats enough of it.  Best to keep him in another room while painting, especially since most paints emit toxic fumes, watercolour is generally better depending on the specific paints but still should be avoided where possible.

I love your hair so much! i was just wondering if you bleach it yourself and how you get it to stay that pastel color

I do bleach it myself (I don’t use a box, I get developer and powder from Sally’s) and right now my hair is only pastel when it’s faded lmaowhen I first dye it, it’s full on blue-purple

but to maintain any hair color: try not to wash your hair every day (dry shampoo) and wash your hair in cold water, and just re-dye it every now and then

so i have a splint on my dominant hand because its broken but mr. bird (suelo) gets really freaked out by it. do you have any ideas?

If it’s not too hot (and it can fit) you may find that wearing a jacket or glove will help make it seems a bit more natural to him and not be quite as frightening.  Otherwise you’re really going to have to do your best to keep that hand hidden while you work with him until you can gradually accustom him to it.  Same process as usual, leave that hand far away where he’s comfortable and play some games/ target/ give treats at a comfortable distance then gradually let him wander closer until he’s more comfortable with it.  Keep your movements slow when you do approach him and try to keep that arm low as much as possible.  I hope you recover soon!

are you going to see any of the womens world cup games since they're all over canada this year? I know you're more of a field hockey person but I've wanted to go for a long while but my father pulled out a few weeks ago D: just curious since there are probably some near you.

I don’t really go to events, neat that the finals will be played in my area, I’m sure I’ll hear all about it and every channel will be covering it but I really don’t like soccer enough to pay to watch it in a stadium
