tbh, i dont like how dreamworks just. forget about their background blades that died for team voltron. like? no mention of ulaz, thace, antok, or regris at all after they died. i mean ulaz was the exception for like one episode after he died, but i mean. thats extremely disappointing. i feel like dreamworks is just throwing out characters with great potential to just kill them off so they dont have to do anything with them

idk if that’s exactly the case? i think it sets up an interesting dichotomy between the blades and voltron, which kolivan even points out in s4e1. where team voltron values every life and wants to save everyone they can, the bom values the mission and treats individuals as expendable

and then we have keith in the middle of it all as someone who wants to value every individual but who also puts his mission as the top priority. and this causes a lot of conflict in himself because he’s not really sure what to do, which extreme to cater to

so i think the bom’s purpose is ultimately to serve as a foil to team voltron, and also to highlight keith’s constant inner conflict. and i think in the writing of this dichotomy, people really needed to die in order to truly show this
