So I’m pretty new to starbound, been playing for a few months, but the friend I’m playing with is a veteran and I visited a moon for the first time with them. I cannot begin to describe the terror I felt.

Contrary to my last suggestion, what if the Erchius Ghosts had come into being in order to fight the Ruin? Erchius is semi-sentient and normally pretty placid, but when the Ruin came along, all the erchius went into panic mode. Nigh-invincible beings made of pure erchius radiation sprang to life on all the moons in the galaxy, determined to kill anything that lays a single tentacle on their precious crystalline flesh... whether that thing is part of the Ruin or not.

Sorry for sending this if it's unnecessary or obtrusive, but I caught a log while looking online, and I figured I'd ask. I'm rather stumped about a few traits Erchius has, and the... unpleasant creatures now "inhabiting" the moons. Do you think Erchius carries... uh... supernatural traits, the way the Horrors do? -Captain Vercel

“Supernatural” is just a word for science we don’t understand yet. Unnatural, though, would certainly fit the bill for them… The crystal certainly seems to allow breaking the known laws of matter, much like the Ghosts and Horror do. There is the Ghosts’ ability to phase through solid rock… But to answer what I think you are asking, yes: Erchius has traits beyond our current understanding, and it might be too risky now to study it further with the moontants, Horror, and Ghosts now guarding the sources. Esther did tell me that moontants are the result of overexposure to Erchius, so we can only assume that even ‘mundane’ Erchius is capable of mutating someone, given the right quantity.
