“I don’t talk about it for a reason.”
“Not even to me?” Shouta whispers, all soft and beseeching. His arms come around Toshinori, palms sliding up his back. He rubs gently over the knobby line of Toshinori’s spine, calluses catching in the starched cotton of his shirt and rasping quietly in their dark, silent bedroom. The older man’s throat goes tight and watery.
“That’s a dirty trick,” he grumbles, but his shaking hands latch onto Shouta’s waist. The younger man obligingly slides into his lap and winds his arms around his husband’s shoulders, pressing him close and tight and safe. Toshinori turns his face into Shouta’s neck, breathing him in until the urge to cry recedes enough that he can speak. He can’t withstand another night of sobbing himself hoarse or he’ll strain his diaphragm again.
“Tell me about your mom and dad,” Shouta begs.
Toshinori does.
