Martin Blackwood was ABSOLUTELY going to be the next person Jonah Magnus wore if the ritual didn't pop off and he had to wait until the next Archivist.
We can infer from his choice of Elias Bouchard (Eric Delano and Gertrude Robinson, both of them former coworkers with the real Elias, were SHOCKED he was head of the Institute) that Jonah got some delight out of picking a "failure" with no close family ties and hauling them up the ladder. And NO ONE would have seen "Martin" getting hand selected.
With the way Simon and Peter treated Martin? Yeah, they knew it, too. They KNEW Jonah's taste.
Eric Delano, who gouged out his eyes to escape the beholding and protect his son watching said son get 100+ eye tatoos
Khm... so... how's everyone doing?
If you are new to this AU, or don't remember: It's called Gertrude is still around or GiSA for short

Possibly the funniest case of this fandom misunderstanding a character is Eric Delano.
Like, my memory is kinda shit so I'd forgotten most of the things about Bloody Mary except for the plot relevant bits, so when I saw everyone writing/drawing Eric as this sweet, bumbling middle aged dad character I just kinda went "makes sense" and moved on.
Well I re-listened to Bloody Mary a few days ago and turns out this guy's bitterness and saracasm is strong enough to be genetically passed down to his son. I mean, I'm exaggerating slightly but his conversation with Gertrude is essentially just
"Eric, can you please just give me the very important information"
"You know I would but you're kind of a bitch"
With this I would like to share my new favorite headcannon: in any AU where Eric survives and raises Gerry, Gerry is way more of an uncooperative nuisence than he is in the actual timeline and any time someone tried to bring it up with Eric they give up within five minutes because he's just as bad. Eric talks shit about his coworkers under his breath in front of Gerry when he's a kid and Gerry then proceeds to loudly exclaim "Dad says you're an old witch who wouldn't know a filing system if it fell on you and broke your frail old bones", instantly ruining the mood at the institutes ill-adviced "bring your kid to work day".
idk
idk if this is at all an original take but gerry talks about not wanting to be called gerard and always wanting his friends to call him gerry in his statement. and i listened to eric’s statement today, and he’s the only one (to my knowledge) who calls him gerry right off the bat. both mary and gertrude call him gerard (and jon, before he knows otherwise). which means either: he liked being called gerry because his dad called him that, or his dad was the only one who listened when he talked about preferring gerry over gerard.
both options make me. very sad 😭
