Skull Shivers:
Intense, constant, high-level vibration combined with prolonged exposure to slag and slag fumes from the mining and processing of Eridium causes the fluid in the inner ear to disrupt the hearing and balance of the affected. Symptoms include: -Dizzyness -Loss of hearing -Varied levels of vertigo and motion sickness -The inflamation of the tubes inside the inner ear and the overproduction of endolymphatic fluid within the ear and its canals. Prolonged slag and slag fume exposure may cause stuttering and intense migraines. It is currently unknown what the long term(10 yrs +) exposure will manifest as symptoms. One example is the development of a stutter. The inability to speak smoothly may indicate a disconnect or the damage of the part of the brain devoted to speech.
A temporary cure for the Skull Shivers has been an intravenal injection of dramamine and ear drops to prevent infection. Current treatment for slag exposure is dangerous and expensive and is not reccomended at this time. Ending exposure to slag is the current reccomended method of treatment.
This condition is common among eridium miners in the Hyperion corporation and any settlements near minding facilities, the most notable being the town of Overlook in the Highlands. Their proximity has killed or incapacitated nearly all of the citizens, who, as of Handsome Jack’s death have been allowed to leave their homes.
