i feel a big problem with Laura is KYost, Liu and Taylor even if you don't like what they wrote had a strong vision for what they wanted to do with Laura which I feel a lot of other people trying to write her lack
100% agree- I would take even Liu or Taylor, to what we are getting.
Tamaki and Schultz biggest problem is they have no clear image for Laura.
ginabel peterson, ashton edwards, and the rest of the artists photographed rehearsing as the wilis for giselle by erika schultz
amanda morgan photographed rehearsing as myrthe for giselle by erika schultz
jonathan batista and angelica generosa photographed rehearsing as albrecht and giselle for giselle by erika schultz

I think the reason Laura works so well on Kyle and Yost X-Force because it is a case of she shouldn't be there and it was a mistake for Scott to put her on there and Logan to keep her on there for so long. New Avengers seems to just have her there because they want a Wolverine to kill people. There isn't an inherent problem with Laura killing people but the story needs to be more than "isn't it cool that this Wolverine is killing people"
I would say Anon- “let’s give the book a chance.”
Maybe it’s a case of “Laura’s just there to be the ‘Wolverine’ character”…. Or it could be that Humphries wanted to explore characters that have often been used as weapons.
Liu had Laura work with Black Widow back in 2011- and it worked! It was definitely one of the better pair-ups Liu did!
Schultz has been exploring Laura interacting with characters like Bucky and Elektra in LKW…
“Laura is usually angry, and, despite my being able to relate to that, I wanted to show that she has an optimism, too,” Schultz shared. “It’s buried deep, but it’ll be unearthed a few times in this series. She’ll be exposed to other players that will show her that there is still good in the world despite the constant stream of horrors daily. Sounds a little too real, all things considered.”
I will give Schultz this- I definitely think her end goal is to have Laura realize that while life is HARD… sometimes you just have to make the best of it… that Laura DOESN’T have to be alone and that by choosing loneliness… she is effectively “missing out”. That life isn’t some “ALL or nothing” zero sum game that she often thinks it is- while it may not be “Laura’s perfect fantasy”… she can still have a “good life”.
Hellion…Gabby…Jubilee…ect all objectively know they might die being close to Laura… but they all still want her in their life anyway. They chose to be there, knowing the risk. And that’s often something Laura refuses to acknowledge.
I think it’s fair to say that Schultz run hasn’t been the strongest…but like Mariko Tamaki, I definitely see the points she’s trying to make and I think it’s an interesting choice.
If Humphries continues this storyline… I am willing to give it a chance!
