I’m bored… so I figured I would make a few polls, lol 😝
Character that you WISH would show up in Laura’s solo…
Kiden Nixon
Hellion (REAL Hellion…not dream Julian!)
Surge
Dust
Mercury
Finesse
Elixir
The Hooded Woman
Molly Hayes/Power Princess
Gambit
Jubilee
The Stepford Cuckoos
(Honorable mention would probably be Hazmat or the clone Alice for me too 😭😭😭)
Since I got this Anon Question earlier today…
@dewyatt @skullcat23-blog @luna-bimborina @baradorable @majingojira @thestomping-ground @movalise (and others feel free to answer!)
What do you think Laura would be like today, if she retained her earlier characterization created by KYOST, Liu, Quesada, and Gage?
What do you think her solo title would have looked like, if we didn’t have the direction change via Bendis/Hopeless/Taylor?
I already answered some of what I thought- but I am curious what others answers would be?
Would Julian and Laura have reconnected? Would Julian have simply moved on?
What would have happened with Kimura?
Would Laura have broken free of the trigger scent?
It is a frankly interesting question!
Oh sorry, I forget Laura didn’t originate in the comics half the time lol, I meant like Queseda/Kyle/Yost/Liu’s
Oh!
Personally, I think she never would have taken on the “Wolverine” moniker and become “Talon”.
But mostly looking much like she already does- long hair, wearing black leather, ect.
I think if writers had stayed in the Queseda/Kyle/Yost/Liu personality of Laura- she would have struggled with relapsing with self injury/harm. Her mental health struggles would not have just been “written away” and solved by “having a sister”.
Possibly had a short stay after a breakdown at a mental health facility or therapy. (Which probably would be triggering for her because of the facility).
More stories around Laura struggling with “personhood”- maybe possibly with Laura finding religion- I think weirdly enough I could see her becoming Muslim because of Sooraya or at least going to a mosque with her.
More stories about human trafficking and Laura eventually acknowledging that she was r***d. Similar to Selina Kyle, with Laura probably ending up protecting women that were trafficked or homeless.
I think at some point after the “breakup”/“situationship”/whatever with Julian- Julian would end up in a serious relationship and Laura I think would really have struggled with that! I think if you look at “Liu’s ending” and Julian during that era, if Marvel hadn’t taken a lighter tone with WatXM/Bendis- I think there’s a huge possibility Julian would have gotten therapy and more or less “left” the X-Men. I could have seen Julian “reconnecting” with a now human Sofia or someone from his past before attending Xavier’s and that possibly ending in him being engaged. I don’t think Laura would ever let that go, similar to Logan’s obsession with Jean.
Her relationship with Logan would be more complicated. Gambit would be probably written as more of her “father figure” than Wolverine.
A possible return of Alice or Miss Sinister or the Hooded Woman. Finesse would probably return and we would probably see more of Jubilee and possibly the NXM.
I think we would have gotten a much darker return on Kimura- most likely with her kidnapping and torturing Hellion or Megan.
Laura would be much more quiet, awkward, and analytical than she is. While I think she would somewhat “adjust” to social norms… I don’t think she’d ever be quite “normal”.
I think basically- a continuation of the crumbs Queseda, Kyle/Yost, and Liu planted. I definitely think it would be a much darker book.
What do you think Laura would look like today, as an adult, if she retained her earlier characterisation?
I don’t know if I would categorize it as her “earlier characterization”- X-Men Evolution is a completely different universe. Same as the movie “Logan” is a different universe.
In the comics, Sarah Kinney is the one who clones her for the Facility and Laura was meant to be a “true clone” until Tom Taylor later retconned it during his run. (Although based on old CBR content and the art resemblance, I often wonder if Kyle was planning to eventually do something similar?)
In Evo, Deborah Risman is the scientist working for Hydra that creates Laura; it appears this Laura is also a “true clone” in this story since much like the comic origin they are unable to produce male clones and Fury mentions finding “Logan’s DNA” at the break in; hinting their DNA is the same. However Laura does resemble Risman as well as Logan in the episodes.
In Logan, Laura is created a biotechnology corporation Alkali-Transigen (Henry Sutter is the one who creates her) and Laura is saved by nurse Gabriela Lopez. In the film, Laura is a true “daughter” and was created via surrogacy. The movie deals with themes around immigrant abuse and maltreatment.
I feel like this is important to point out- because while the origins are similar for all three, the themes are different. Where the comic origin focuses more on “Pinocchio” and “Frankenstein”, Evo focused more on Laura struggling with anger towards her lost childhood. Logan is more a focus on technological abuse and treatment of POC. Each are different but still important.
Evo shows how Laura looks in the final clip.
