Fic Claim : Home is Where the Cat Is

This was my second fic I wrote this year and probably the most fun I've had writing a fic. It was for @hd-erised. I've mentioned a few places in comments that it's lighter than I usually write. Light does not mean fluffy. LOL I just meant that there were more soft and domestic scenes while Harry deals with PTSD and other serious issues. Also there's a tabby cat and Draco purrs. LOL

@m0srael was my giftee and one of the things she requested was either H or D be a creature type but not have it rule their lives. It was to be just a matter of fact thing that they would deal with in their life. Now that is a prompt! Oh and H having tea with Narcissa on a frequent basis.

So come with Harry on the Knight Bus to travel 'home' and get to know his neighborhood and neighbors.

I haven't been around long enough this time to get into the banner making.

“Draco. Look at me.” Draco looks up, stomach twisting unfairly hard at Potter using his first name. “Did I get too deep? Do I need to be a dick to make you feel better?” Potter’s voice is kind, but there’s just the hint of smirk at the corner of his mouth, and Draco can’t help but smirk back. “You’re always a dick,” Draco says, relieved. “The dickiest,” Potter agrees, and Draco huffs a laugh. “Look at you, though, you don’t even know how to use scissors—” “Look at all the roots I’ve cut!” Draco squawks. “Weakest man I’ve ever met,” Potter says, grinning. “Don’t you have some saviouring to do? Babies to kiss? Loyal subjects to horrify with your brave deeds?” Potter winks at him. “Would you like to go to the Quidditch game with me this weekend?” “What?” Draco blinks at him. How did they go from insults to this? And fuck, the insults sound like flirting, now that he thinks about it, and is Potter asking him out on a— “I’d like to take you to the Quidditch game this weekend,” Potter repeats, grinning. “Because you’re the worst. And I definitely hate you, and think you’re horrifying to look at. So, will you come?”

“What are you planning?” “It’s obvious. You need to get a sample straight from the source. The targets have all been couples.” Draco raised a brow. He couldn’t mean… “We make ourselves targets,” Harry said as it dawned on him. He shook his head. “Astoria and I could do that—set a Tracking Charm on the perp, get the potion and bring it to you. You’re not a trained Auror.” “You have no idea what I’m capable of,” Draco said. “Whoever is doing this is smart—they won’t be fooled by two Aurors, even with glamours. Besides, neither of you would know what you’re looking for.” “I still—” “Don’t tell me you can convincingly act like you’re madly in love with Astoria.” Harry couldn’t argue with that. She was an amazing, extremely sharp Auror, but also made him want to yank his hair out on a regular basis. “But you think I can pretend to be”—Harry felt his face heat—"madly in love with you?” Draco shrugged. “You’ve done it before,” he said.

"I suppose, then, that our little wager does beg the question of where that leaves us for tonight," Draco said. Was he just supposed to ignore the blatant bit of flirting and head home on his own for a sad and lonely wank? Draco didn't even consider the possibility of finding somebody else for the evening—what was the point when all he'd be able to think about was Harry Potter? "I thought that was obvious." "Oh?" Harry leaned forward, his hands pressing against Draco's chest as his lips brushed against Draco's ear. It was a welcome intimacy, if unnecessary—they'd been hearing each other just fine so far, even in the loud din of the club, but Draco was hardly going to complain about the new proximity as Harry murmured into his ear, "I thought I'd give you a taste of what you'll get if you win."

In which Draco is a high-powered magical divorce lawyer and Harry is the Unspeakable assigned to seduce him. It goes as well as one might expect.

An h/d Erised fic for the unparalleled @agentmoppet.

This fic spiralled out of one of those late night chats you have with those very best friends who tolerate you when you’re exhausted and slightly manic. The conversation went something like this: 

Me: What if Draco was a divorce lawyer??? A: That sounds- Me: OH, but for pure-bloods! Mostly for pure-bloods!!! A: okay but- Me: BECAUSE what better way is there to reinforce generations of power and privilege than marriage?! A: I think- Me: AND OF COURSE! Draco would want to tear that shit down!  A: yes- Me: they would definitely have some nasty marital bonding shenanigans going on. Creepy and ancient and beautiful in its own fucked up powerful way. Okay okay, I think I’ve got it.  A: Anything else? *raised eyebrow* Me: My lord, Pansy would be hot in a pantsuit.  A: heavy sigh. 

This fic is deeply indebted to the angsty brain of it’s giftee (@agentmoppet​, you dastardly genius) but also to the intricate magical theory you’d see in an astolat story. A zillion thank yous to the gracious beta from @gampyre and the unending patience of @arca9 (with whom I had that formative conversation). 

I’d never participated a drarry fest before and so had no idea how fucking fantastic the mods would be: @dictacontrion, @gracerene, @firethesound, how dare you ruin me for all possible future fests? Seriously, though, thank you could never cover it <3
