Harry Potter Characters As Texposts Part 2
Prompt #3 for TTB Let's Do Shots series
1. The Runaway (AO3)
In a job like this one, Ernie had met quite a few runaways. Desolate, angry looking kids.
This particular runaway - instead of getting onto the bus - was having an argument with someone who resembled him. He tapped his finger on the steering wheel impatiently.
“- aren’t you ashamed of what you are putting our family through?”
“When do you plan on getting a mind of your own, Reg? You can’t be this stupid -”
As the other boy spluttered his response (something about blood traitors), Ernie called, “Is anyone getting on?”
They looked startled at the interruption. The taller one held his gaze, “I’ll find my own way.”
Ernie sighed. Kids these days.
2. To Cokeworth (AO3)
Ernie got sullen passengers all the time. However, this woman and a boy - clearly her son - looked so unpleasant, Ernie thought twice before greeting them.
The woman looked past him while the boy muttered, “Cokeworth” and handed him the sickles. He wilted into his seat for the rest of the ride. At Cokeworth, with a voice teetering on edge of resentment, he said, “Mum, we are here.”
The woman glided down, muttering a “thanks” as though this was the first time she had seen Ernie. The boy hunched defensively as he got off. Ernie couldn’t help it - “Take care!”
Startled, he gave an involuntary nod before he followed his mother.
Hair
6 August 1993
He glanced up as Stan led the boy to the nearest bed, and suddenly, it was two decades in the past. There was no mistaking that face; Ernie had seen it every summer. James Potter, cheeky sod, had practically made the Knight Bus his personal chauffeur. Ernie looked at the door, half-expecting Black to come traipsing in next.
“This is Neville Longbottom, Ern.”
Ernie knew the face of a boy trying to make a getaway. He’d fetched Black from Islington enough times.
The boy caught his eye, fiddling nervously with his untidy hair. Ernie felt his lips twitch as he nodded, remembering another black-haired boy who messed with his hair.

Aboard the Knight Bus
The dullest Tuesday in Ernie’s recent memory was made infinitely better when the Knight Bus screeched to a halt at its next stop and a familiar face climbed aboard.
“Archie!”
“Happy Birthday, Ern!”
Ernie glowed with joy; he hadn’t expected anyone to remember his birthday this year, not since his dear Cora had left him.
“Here, have a present.”
Archie pressed a parcel to Ernie’s chest.
“Ar, you shouldn’t’ve.”
“Nonsense! This is a nightgown. Muggles wear them,” Archie proudly explained. “You wait till you’ve tried it on, Ern. I tell you, these Muggles might be onto something here.”
Prompt: Ernie Prang??? driver of the knight bus?? I think there's a touch of Ernie/Madam Marsh here. There is also a TTC reference... oops.
The Knight Bus filled a niche in wizarding transportation. For the witch without an Apparating license, the wizard in a Muggle flat who couldn’t get the landlord’s permission for a Floo hookup, those who stubbornly refused to fly a broom no matter how good the cushioning charms are these days.
Most people only knew it as the “Vomit Comet”: the last resort after a night at the pub. It bothered Ernie a bit, (try driving a bus across the country in two seconds flat without hitting a few bumps!) but every time Madam Marsh stumbled off, shaky and pale-faced, he thought about taking another look at the bus’ suspension. Ao3
So I blame The Three Broomsticks Server (but especially @a-familiar-witch) for my new obsession with Ernie Prang. Read on AO3
As soon as they heard, Ernie was up and headed to the door, David following close behind. “Please don’t go, it’s dangerous.”
“You heard the wireless, the school’s been evacuated. They need to get those kids home somehow, and people will be wanting to join the fight.”
“They’ll stop you, they won’t let you through.”
“I won’t get too close, I’ll stick to the other side of Hogsmeade. Besides, the old girl’s too quick for ‘em.” A step forward, a quick kiss. “Come on, I’ll drop you at Mungo’s on the way, it’ll be all hands on deck.”
"With a yell, he rolled back onto the pavement, just in time. A second later, a gigantic pair of wheels and headlights had screeched to a halt exactly where Harry had just been lying. They belonged, as Harry saw when he raised his head, to a triple-decker, violently purple bus, which had appeared out of thin air. Gold lettering over the windscreen spelled The Knight Bus."
Stan Shunpike & Ernie Prang are boyfriends and they're in a polyamorous relationship with the shrunken head
