The idea that The Bishops all grew up together, personally, makes their familial bonds with one another feel... cheaper. If they grew up side-by-side, then that's not much different from being raised together as biological siblings, bonds made that they did not choose for themselves, but rather, were obligated to make and maintain for survival. Finding and choosing the ones who they want to keep in their life during maturity feels more genuine and powerful, as they would have had to continue to consciously choose each other for over 2000 years.
