Well, I had quite a bit of fun designing the author's characters for my two AUs, Weirdcore Tower and Dance Tower (I did both because I had a hard time choosing). But I wouldn't say it was easy, especially with the faceless Peppino.

Considering that the faceless Peppino is already unusual due to his lack of a face, it seemed like a perfect fit for my Weirdcore Tower AU, even without any major changes. However, I still gave him the appearance of my main Peppino and added a few details to explain his facelessness. As for Kernel, I made him a regular big sock puppet with a separate arm, which he uses to move and communicate.

Dance Tower was a bit easier. For Kernel, I chose a tango dance style. I think it would suit him. Faceless Peppino would be no different from my usual Peppino except that his outfit is brighter and his dance moves seem to stutter and be out of rhythm.
