My parents are conservative, Christian, white lawyers who grew up in the Mountain West, and they watched all 448 episodes of this Turkish historical drama.
They loved that the characters had strong moral convictions and that religion was a positive force in their life. They loved the emphasis on family and loyalty. My parents felt like they had a lot in common with the characters, even though in so many ways they are wildly different.
I think that’s beautiful.
