RIP to ES-01. The dude was obviously kind of an elitist douche, but when it came down to it, he was actually willing to think for himself and stand up for what’s right. I have to admire him for openly defying Crosshair ASAP, taking initiative to do the moral thing without even thinking about it.
I guess that questioning, rebellious, and critical thinking doesn’t JUST apply to the validity of clones at least. He was naive in the end to immediately assume that the Empire would let his actions go unpunished... That he could just do that and the others would follow him, because he does have that hopeful, take-it-for-granted faith/trust in his comrades as being like him in that they’re not mindless monsters, not necessarily; But I guess that’s just how the propaganda fooled him, tricking ES-01 into thinking people are valued, hence his gripe about the Republic’s failure. Still, that level of open and free thinking, that willingness to take initiative and establish agency, should be encouraged, and obviously describes a lot of people who formed/joined the Rebellion.
