“Cabbage Leaves”
“This piece is called “Cabbage Leaves.” It’s inspired by the beauty and versatility of the cabbage plant. Cabbage soup. Stuffed cabbage. Sauerkraut. Kimchi. Aesthetic photos. You name it. . . Reminder! today is the last day to get this month’s Patreon reward! The $20 tier includes this piece as a baby print. Swipe to see this month’s prints. . . I bought this set of LUKAS 1862 watercolors the other week when @jerrysartarama had the 12 pan for half off, and while it’s noticeably not as vibrant as my other watercolors, I absolutely fell in love with the way the paint handles on hot press paper for how I paint. I thought I was going to hate how opaque the shades included were, but everything sheers out beautifully with zero chalkiness and made me realize I don’t actually hate opaque watercolors. Everyone always calls LUKAS a just okay, cheap and barely artist grade brand, but I actually prefer them to some of my more expensive paints. I hate the color selection of most 12 color sets, but this palette is pretty close to my ideal. A phthalo blue instead of the cyan would have been lovely, but I see why they included it for a cymk palete. The Payne’s grey shade despite being a three pigment mix is probably my current favorite Payne’s grey. I went back for some more shades and saw the full pans were on closeout for less than $4 each, but everything started selling out while I was trying to decide and I might have actually cried. POINT IS, if this set is ever on sale again, I really recommend it as a starter/travel set of 12. . Also second pic is some Holbein gold gouache which might possibly be the most beautiful gold paint I own right now. It’s so different from all my other golds in that it’s gold flakes. Really recommend that too. .“
