it’s been… a rough shift. multiple bodies declared, a handful of collapsed buildings, and esme’s normally good at separating herself from shit, and not bringing it home with them. until she’s not, and her hands shake when she drives herself home.

and then there’s spiderman in her backyard, and esme hasn’t even gotten herself out of her uniform when she starts to cry. because she can’t take care of everyone all the time, and that’s wrecking them, beyond just all of the shit going on today. and what he’s asking is— it makes her feel worse and better all at the same time.

“ i don’t — " she lets out a shaky breath, pushes her thumbs into her temples. she’s not supposed to need him. she’s supposed to save his ass, not the other way around. “ it’s just a bad day, i don’t — ”

         "Never have I ever? Really, Es? That’s the game you wanna play?” Weston found that there was humor in his tone with the way he couldn’t help but laugh. The game seemed childish, but truthfully, it was one of the more fun games he remembered playing at those high school parties. He also knew how Esme could get, though, so he nearly prayed for the newcomer Abby that got smashed into their table. It all started with Weston running straight into Esme’s shoulder then her prompting him to buy her drink as a form of apology, and as the tables turned, a tipsy blonde ran into a shorter brunette and spilled her drink on her top. That resulted in a frantic effort to clean up the mess with bar stool napkins, which resulted in a lame joke and a promise of a new drink. Well, that ended up with the three of them there.   “Alright, fine, but you’re takin’ mercy on Abbs and I. You get to go first and... well, don’t make it too dirty.”
