I know you and Esme are pretty hands-off and the kiddos make their own choices. But are there still any scenarios in which you feel the need to offer a gentle (or even firm) push now and then?

Frequently. I am trying to be better about it.

And while I recognize this as a subtle request for an interesting story thereof, I'd rather not provide one if you don't mind too terribly much. The balance between recognizing that our children still have some teenager tendencies due to where the physical structures of their nervous systems were arrested versus respecting their long acquisition of life experiences remains a delicate one. One aspect of our life since the pandemic has been resting in the experience of feeling like a married couple with grown children and the freedom for Esme and I to feel that way has also meant leading with less tight a grip. That has been hard, and rewarding.

Ngl I love that Emmett was killed by a bear and they turned out to be his favorite food, with which he insists on playing. It’s like he has sworn vengeance on all bears for eternity, knowing he’ll win every single rematch. He’s such a fun character
