I’ve been having a blast lately laying the groundwork for the Eastern Shore Museum Network federated archive. Part of this work requires getting familiar with DACS, shown above. This text gives a comprehensive set of archiving standards so that accessions and resources can be catalogued efficiently and uniformly. Although I won’t be getting into the weeds of DACS as much as a specialist in museum collections, I’m looking forward to providing a complete and broad set of metadata for the ESMN archive based on this set of standards. Many thanks to Elizabeth Wilkinson at the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections library at UVA for sitting down with me and giving an in-person tutorial of ArchivesSpace. Can’t wait to gain some new software skills! The rest of my week has been filled with phone calls and chit chats with various administrators, directors, volunteers and interns at our various member institutions. Everyone I’ve spoken to is clearly dedicated to their respective museum, as well as the prospect of a federated archive. I’m very excited to meet y’all on the Eastern Shore in person later in July! As for now, I’m back at IT setting up a secure server for storing the catalogue... Cheers! Kyle J Gename
