DOWN WITH THE PATRIARCHY, UP THE FAE-TRIARCHY
Makeup is a kind of quintessential emblem for the tromp l'oeil nature of Maya, no? And the beauty and entertainment industry is a driving force in the tension between our ability to disentangle ourselves from the sole identification with the physical body. Not necessarily from the pain of imposed beauty standards (although it's 2020 and people are still dying from eating disorders) but from the psychic weight of being seen as the body alone. Of course we all suffer from stereotyping, but the process of this kind of gnostic unveiling and psychic liberation is uniquely positioned for women and feminine people by it's relationship to these socio-industrial forces.
