Tony had promised him shawarma. Cale was holding him to that. He didn't know the exact location of the restaurant Tony had mentioned, but it turned out to be irrelevant. The place was situated practically in the heart of the battle zone, its windows blown out and its interior coated in a fine layer of dust. The fact that it was still standing at all felt like a minor miracle, and the fact that it was somehow still serving food felt like something beyond logic entirely. But this was New York. People here had a peculiar determination to maintain normalcy in the face of absurdity. The Avengers were already there. Cale caught them through the shattered storefront, gathered around a table in varying states of exhaustion. He walked in without announcement and dropped into an empty chair beside Tony. ... Tony stared at him for a long moment, his expression passing from disbelief to resignation.
