What to drink next was a tough choice but this Tovarish has been calling to me since I won it in the Instagram Craft Beer Fantasy league last year (hat tip to @mnaclerio1 for creating it a few years ago 🍻.) It is one of the best coffee beers I've ever had. The booze is subtle and hidden well under the huge in your face coffee flavor. Beer can be great. It can also be crap. That’s because beer is a kaleidoscope of styles, a million piece puzzle of variety. I love a good beer and I almost always have stuff to say about it. So at one point I started putting this stuff down into an excel table in the form of rated reviews. That was a year ago and now it’s a habit and also something I really love doing and do it in a non-snobbish way. So it was only natural that I take my ramblings to the great sea of unwarranted personal opinions that is the internet. So this is my tiny little beer blog where I will share my encounters with hops from different area codes.

And I find it only fitting that I begin with one of the best beers I have ever tasted (next week - one of the worst :D ). So without further a due.

Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout, 7%, Stout, Japan Color: 9.50 Body: 9 Taste: 9.75 Overall: 9.5

Dark like the nights over mount Fuji, subtle like a black ninja, tasty like a motherfucker! This little gem from Japan comes in very dark shades of stout and sweet brown foam to go on top of it. Smells like dark chocolate and tastes more like a mix of coffee beans and the former that it does of beer. The bitterness is sweet - oh it is sooooo sweet!!! mmmmmm. And by sweet I mean bittersweet - but not in the bad way - oh no! Bittersweet in the best-est of ways - like seeing your ex-girlfriend and barely recognizing her for the weight equivalent of another ex girlfriend that she has since put on. Or like seeing the duchebag who just cut you at the traffic light and ten sped off, patiently waiting at the next red light. I had a pretty crap day before pouring this but it made it all better! This beer is a moment of triumph. A triumph of the proper over the extreme eccentricity in the world. A true pinnacle of craftsmanship. Like most things the Japanese put themselves into, this beer is perfected in every detail. Please try it - your life is not complete until you do!
