Rydell was definitely not down for this heat bullshit.
In the past it hadn’t bothered her so much. She just went with it, did what she could to deal with the situation. It was inconvenient but nothing earth shattering. And it was something every were had to deal with so who was she really to complain?
But this time was different. Aside from her newly found alcohol dependency which was bordering on true alcoholism, she had been hit in the face with the soulmate shit- fuck her life. Now, in theory the soulmate thing was a good thing to have during heat events, especially since like their true wolf counterparts werewolves mated for life. Except for her there were a few problems.
One was that her soulmate was, in fact, human. That meant that even if he could understand in theory what heat was he couldn’t understand the actuality of it. (Humans got horny but it was nowhere near the same thing.) The second was that he was a human who didn’t believe in the supernatural which meant even if she wanted to explain heat to him? He wouldn’t believe her- once again, fuck her life. Then, of course, there was the awkwardness of him being her best friend’s boss (it wasn’t like she could just go and try to hookup with him without it being awkward) and the fact that she was trying to avoid him like the plague (the connection was killing her because not only was she not down for the emotional connection thing but at the end of the day she wouldn’t want a good person like Jack to be stuck with someone like her).
So, her solution? She was going to hide in her house until heat was over. It meant she wouldn’t be able to fuck anything up, she could avoid running into Jack (her current life goal, to be honest) and just wait things out. Because of her plan she texted Uriel so he wouldn’t worry about her (he may not have been a were but he would understand), stocked up on supplies so she wouldn’t have to go grocery shopping and decided to place herself on her couch, watching crappy sci-fi movies and eating ice cream.
Pathetic? Maybe. But definitely safe.
