Well… That’s a wrap on racing for 2021. Feels like we’ve packed packed 4 months racing into the past couple of months… and well, we did! I just had a look at the clubs race results.. and we have. We had RC action every weekend since the start of October. No wonder I’m beat. Highlights, NSW On Road Titles: 6th in ISTC 13.5 and 4th in 13.5 1/12th. ACT Off Road Titles: 7th in EBuggy. The NSW Titles have been run and won. Held on the fast and flowing Whalan RC track in Western Sydney. Rain made it a challenge for both competitors and the organisers limiting practice to a couple of hours late on Saturday with the meeting running a condensed format on Sunday. Things did not go well in the seeding round for me as I chased out early, this placed me towards the back of the B qualifying group. I pulled it together and managed to qualify in 7th for the A finals. Things were fast and furious in all three finals with close racing the order of the day. When the dust settled I finished in 6th place. My WRC STX7 was reliable and consistent all day, making it easy to race and push as hard as I could. 12th scale was a blast. Ultimately I finished 4th after some really close battles in both qualifying and the finals. Congratulations to the Castle Hill and Whalan RC clubs. Congratulations to Simon, Braden, Phil, Steven and Ricky for taking the various titles in their classes at the 2021 RCRA ACT Titles. I am very happy to have placed 4th in the hotly contested ISTC 13.5 class. My WRC STX.7 was in the hunt from the moment I put in on the track on Friday. Even with a last minute change to a different control tyre only a tweak to the rear roll centre and a stiffer rear roll bar was all that was needed to compensate for the change. It was great to see my fellow WRC drivers doing well. Nic Creswell placed 2nd in ISTC 21.5, Brent Love won the ISTC 21.5 B final, Darryl Helmers finished 3rd also in the ISTC 21.5 B final. Andrew Kuzmins finishing 4th in ISTC 13.5. Congratulations guys! The ACTMCRC ran a great Titles and I’m looking forward to the 2021 Nationals scheduled for later this year. It DOES NOT get closer than this! Going into today’s race meeting the ‘Feel the Burn’ series could have gone any way between myself, Steve and Warren. I managed to set TQ with my STX.7 but suffered with some steering problems in the first final. Replacing the faulty part for the second final I was able to take a win. In the third leg Steve was able to pass me in the opening laps. I threw everything I had at Steve but could not catch him, in the end taking second place. What I hadn’t realised was that I had done enough to win the overall day. I tied with Steve on points, and was awarded the win on count back. I hadn’t realised I’d won until a few minutes ago when a friend sent me a message congratulating me for the win. So, definitely in Smug Mode right now 😅.
