The postwar Korean peninsula was a melting pot where different cultures from the East and the West intertwined. The music business grew significantly as clubs were founded around the U.S. military bases. Many musicians who played for the clubs had interpreted and localized rock, jazz, soul and boogaloo in various styles. However, such unique music was suppressed and vanished for the political interests of the military regime in the mid ‘70s. Today, the musical genres that once thrived during those periods remain discontinued and forgotten. DJ Soulscape, a critically acclaimed musician and an avid vinyl collector, has spearheaded the project to uncover the lost archives of Korea’s musical past. The Sound of Seoul and More Sound of Seoul compilations were conceived to revisit the Korean music of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

@alumniofny is a sneaker boutique that's been a Crown Heights staple for more than two decades. Right off the Eastern Parkway, it's no stranger to the celebratory spirit (and madness) of the annual Labor Day weekend. To commemorate the occasion, @essenticnyc thought it was only appropriate for @alumniofny to host a fete of its own, and to accommodate the jumpoff with a special musical treat. Crown Sound was the result of this epiphany.
