winn had to admit, he was a bit surprised to receive the invitation from kara to attend the catco party. even despite the fact that he just didn’t work there anymore, he just figured he wouldn’t really be her first choice for a date. they certainly weren’t as close as they had been in his catco days, and he was a bit perplexed that she’d come to him rather than alex or sam or someone else. he figured it might’ve been because lena and james would be getting invites already, probably.
but his confusion didn’t prevent him from immediately accepting her offer. he saw it as a chance to maybe reconnect and grow closer than they’d been before. winn was happy to give up a night on his couch in his sweats with his video games to spend some time with her, even if it might having to dress up in a way that made him feel just a little bit out of his element.
he gave a smile when he saw her, for a moment transported back a year or two to his attendance at these parties as an employee. winn chuckled a bit at her long-winded compliment, offering an appreciative smile. “thanks,” he replied, adjusting his tie a little. “i could say the same for you. only i could say it much faster,” winn teased, eyes briefly lighting up just a bit.
