For Wren! #7 for each Past, Present, and Future!

Past 7: Who were their friends during childhood? Are they still in touch with them?

Though there were plenty of passing connections, Wren was primarily friends with Sirius and Thaizo (belongs to @zomnas). Thai got lucky and left Ostian about a decade before Wren and Siri took their chance. Wren and Thai found each other again in Enderal. Unfortunately, Sirius did not survive the journey.

Present 7: Do they have a partner? How did they meet, and what’s their relationship like now?

She has two partners: Thaizo and Jespar. Thaizo is a lifelong friend whose presence envelops her in warmth and dearly needed gentleness. He is her home, and she is his. Jespar is more of a transient presence, and in his freedom he is genuine. They have a chemistry best seen in problem solving. In combat, for example, they are fluid. They are a harmony.

They are, all of them, clever little idiots in love.

Future 7: Are their friends still a part of their life? Are there people they are no longer in touch with, or newly important people?

She lost many friends to certain tragic events, and others lost her, but she checks in on all of them as well as she can.

8 and 20 for Micah and Tharael?

8. What were their first impressions of each other?

Tharaêl was curious, perhaps a bit desperate to find someone with the right credentials to take on the task of killing the Father. It was part of his routine to watch over the Dust Pit, so wasn’t it just his luck that the odd Sun Child has won out of the four competitors? He originally had the task of antagonizing Rasha into paying the Shadow Tax, but this was looking to have some merit. If this Sun Child with the round face and the big eyes was able to handle the rest of them, then he might have found a good candidate. Hopefully, they were worth the investment. He’ll give them credit where credit is due.

Micah, on the other hand, was not expecting a member of the Rhalâta to compliment them. (Yes, they still remember that, and it is one of their most treasured memories.) Enderal had, in their terms, been a bit of a shitshow and a disappointment, but they had the mercenary who was willing to help with their fever. Outside of that? They felt this had been a terrible idea. That single compliment, somehow, made them feel like this was worth fighting for a second chance. 

Without knowing it, both of them felt hopeful by that small instance of fate.

20. What is a promise they have made to each other?

There’s the obvious promise in the beginning (let’s kill the Father, we got this), but the one that had mattered the most to them was the one after the Father achieved Transcendence, where Tharaêl was a breath away from the ledge: redemption.

Part of this promise turned to Micah giving Tharaêl the space he needed for himself, but also giving him the ability to explore outside of Ark, on his own terms and with them supporting him all the way. Micah got the second chance they wanted, so why couldn’t Tharaêl have that too? Of course this had hiccups (Tharaêl learning the hard way Micah wasn’t great with reading maps, Micah having to be as patient as possible and trying to work out being the Prophet alongside that), but this meant more to the two of them than words could ever say.

Technically, there’s a third, but that one is a secret for the time being. :3c

1, 9, 12 for Ashera and Jespar?

I FORGOT ABOUT THESE I’M SO SORRY 

Here they are, 84 years later:

1) who can outdrink the other?

Jespar, easily. Ashera is a lightweight and she can barely handle one drink even though she tries to tough it out. It doesn’t work. 

9) who finds stray animals and begs the other to let them keep them?

Y’all should know Ashera is an animal lover by now, haha! She doesn’t beg, though. She finds a stray animal and that’s her baby now. Jespar can deal with it if he wants.

12) who hogs the bathroom?

I think they both would? Ashera likes to take her time getting ready in the morning and Jespar seems like the kind of guy to put a lot of effort into his appearance. I love to imagine some modern AU where they share a single small bathroom and they’re both basically fighting each other for the mirror. The counter is a mess of hair products and make-up and a bunch of different hygiene products knocked over everywhere. 

It’s great, let me live.

Firespark + stone

Nothing was set in stone, and Constantine Firespark knew that all too well. Everything was always changing, always in motion, and fate was never stagnant. Being the master of his own fate always had a nice ring to it, but now, as he stood in front of what he assumed to be the 'heart' of the Living Temple, he couldn't help but shake the feeling of being there before. 

Of events transpiring in the same exact order and of people repeating themselves, even though he knew full well such things were just in the mind. Impossible, improbable, and ramblings of mad men. Was he mad? He could be, with everything he'd seen in his life and experienced before and after coming on to this Lightborn-forsaken continent as one of the few Nehrimese mages. 

As he looked around the room, more things began to unravel, and the once hard ground beneath his feet began to dissipate and turn into a river, its course clear and consistent and suddenly, he began wondering if he ate anything rotten or laced with glimmerdust. The more he saw of the river, the more he understood, and at the same time he understood less and less. His role, his place in the story and it's course lead to a singular point, where the river suddenly.. stopped. 

And he was getting close to that point. 

Too close. 

And when Jespar and the Prophet found him mumbling to himself mindlessly, he finally understood that the phrase 'nothing is set in stone' was just another lie he believed far too long.

12. If someone else stole something and you stole it back is that a good deed, a bad deed, or one of equal worth? Are you better than the original thief?

Valiane

"To get an item stolen is an oversight on the victim's part no matter who was the instigator, and that's it. It is idiotic to believe that you'll have some sort of moral superiority if you are the one stealing, especially if done in retaliation. To do so is either an act of revenge or simple utility, and neither is virtuous enough to consider it a 'good deed.'"

"If you manage to get the thing back, good on you! It's your right to get it, if it was really stolen. You're not better than the thief, but you're damn near close."

"I mean, if you want it, go and get it. I won't stop you, but don't think you're making a good decision doing so. It's better to use it as evidence for stealing rather than let it be used against you in the end. Again, it's not a bad thing to do, but it's very far from good either. There's very little value judgement from this."

62. What sort of legacy does your character wish to leave behind?

Micah was heavily inspired by their mother to travel Vyn, writing about whatever they found and how it impacted them. If possible, they wish for someone, be it a family member/friend, to either continue their journal or begin a new one. This is actually something fun I have as angst for Micah’s canon ending ahaha.

83. What is the first thing they say and/or do when they wake up?

Probably one of the following:

“Today’s gonna be one of those days.”

“I need to do x... and then see about y... Did I fix z yet?”

Micah proceeds to open their eyes... And groans.

They immediately get up and check out if everything hasn’t exploded overnight. Has their company eaten yet? What’s going on with their herbs? That neighbor better not be talking shit again or they swear to the Creator--
