To call it a garden fittingly describes the care wich it recieves from it's Lords, Este and Irmo. Its does not, however, scratch the sheer size and splendour that is this forest with it glades, lakes, streams and spring. These are the gardens of rest, where everyone may find refugee from the stress that plagues them. Irmo is a gifted healer, as is his wife, and he spends much time with patients and guests if they wich so.
What follows is a brief description of this marvellous place of calm and rest.
Tall stand the Mallorn trees in Lorien, their silver trunks like the coloumns of a great hall. Green and silver are their leafes in spring and summer, and the floor of the forest is decked in the golden leafes that fall down in autumn. Small rivercreeks can be found, and streams run through rocky beds between the great trees, and end in crystal clear ponds under the canopy. Here and there are glades, where long grass grows and colourfull flowers bloom. Rock formations dot the landscape, and dark green vines blanket parts of the forest. Everywhere you look there is a place you can lay or sit down and rest. Under the blanket of vines, there are rooms made out of the very plants they are situated in, often housing a bed or two. Some big Mallorns have a small cave beneath their roots, with a door you can close if you really want to shut the world out. Ladders and stairs make climbing individual Mallorns possible, leading to fleets where pilows, refreshments and hammocks wait for the weary. Rabbits, deer and birds inhabit the forest, and adhere to its Lords. Wherever the Lord of Visions walks, birds start to sing and colourfull patterns, phantasm of unlikely beings and views appear and disappear, if he doesn't make a small effort to tone them down.
There are a few places of note:
The Hall of Lorien/Irmo (OC)
A great hall, representing his official dwelling in Valinor. High are the coloumns, rich in detail the engravings on them and blindingly colourfull the tapestries that serve as walls. The roof is open, save for gems and colourfull glassshards suspended freely moving above it. Fractured lcanstantly changing light make this hall a small glimpse into the visions Irmo can provide. A large stone throne has been adorned with cushions and blankets, for it was much too uncomfortable. One who travels to these halls will find a marvellous sight indeed- but only seldomely the one who is supposed to be seated therein, since Lorien like frolicking through the gardens that gave him his name too much to sit on a piece of stone all day.
The great Tent (OC)
Did a description I am quite pleased with here.
Lake Lórelin
In the deepest part of Lorien lies a saphire blue lake, and by day there rest Este, wife of Irmo and healer of ills. This is the only place guests shouldn't visit if they aren't invited, since accidentily disturbing Este's sleep would greatly rouse Irmo's ire, and an eternity of nightmares and haunting visions await those who do without due reason.
Irmo happened to come across the lake Lórellin in his stroll, and alás Este was awake and sitting at its shores. "Finally I found you! An age have I slept, or two, the other Vala are quite a bit useless when it comes to make correct measurements of the time I am afraid." He sat down on the shore besides her. "Important dreams were dreamt, and visions shared with those in need." A smile crept across his face; "But I must say, livelier it is here, were so many things changed from what I remembered... Tulkas invited me to a night of drinking, for wich I probably should, as allways, apologize in advance; Ostë still invades bathtubs unquestioned; and for the first time since the Trees are gone I saw sister Nienna smile." He lay down, and stretched his arms out. "And now I found you too, never I was more glad to have gotten out of bed." Irmo gazed up at Estë, and looked thoroughly pleased with everything.
'A shame we had to cut our drinking short' tought Irmo, after he had said his goodbyes to Tulkas. 'Of course I had to promise him a proper binge for later, but for now I have to check up on what has happened while I was asleep.' So he decided to take a stroll through the forest he inhabits, stretching his legs and greeting all the small and big things that lived with him. 'Something is amiss... the birds, the trees, the ponds rivers and streams... the booze, the plants. All is here.'
"Eru!" he suddenly yelped. "This Halflings weed must have been stronger than I thought. Where is my beloved Este? Did she bore of me after I have slept all this time?"
