Dark Academia: México

When looking for dark academia playlists, I came across a lot of beautiful compilations of wonderfully orchestrated scores. After listening to them, I found myself a little lost and isolated. I noticed, with a weary realization, that none of them resonated with me. I enjoyed them for what they were but they didn’t quite reach my heart. 

In an effort to diversify the dark academia tag I made a playlist to show what dark academia means to me, being Mexican.

I would like to make this a little trend in the dark academia community. So if any of you decide to make a dark academia playlist based specifically on your culture, please tag it #DAfordiversity

Light Academia: México

#DAfordiversity now has a Light Academia: México playlist!. 

What is #DAfordiversity?

#DAfordiversity is an effort to create a space in the DA tag for diversity to thrive within the community via the creation of playlists concentrating on a specific culture or country. The intent of each collection is to express and share what dark academia means to you in the context of your culture. 

How do I participate in #DAfordiversity?

Easy, just make a playlist meeting the requirements stated above with any academia theme (dark, light, grey, chaotic) and tag it #DAfordiversity. If we get enough of these, I’ll make a masterlist for easier access.

Lets make a change together. Dark academia for diversity! 

About the Light Academia: México playlist

In the light academia version, I decided to focus on classical, old school, and contemporary song choices as I find light academia balances classical and contemporary elements very well.

coffee: how do you take your coffee?

on the rare occasions when I do drink coffee, I usually prefer it very black and very hot. is that nutritional? we may never know.

More questions! Favorite classic book? Your opinion on Shakespeare? What are some of your favorite movies? 我也爱你💖

My (longtime) favorite classic is Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. it’s a book I read over and over when I was younger, and I just kind of grew up with these deep, nostalgic love for it. 

My opinion on shakespeare… you might be disappointed to hear this but my opinions on his work are pretty.. vague.. unambitious.. I don’t think I know enough to have a solid opinion, I have what you call ‘hazy appreciation’ lolol

Movies.. there’s a lot, but I’ll go with Good Will Hunting, the classic :)

I genuinely can’t remember the last time I saw the sunset. I’m more familiar with the sunrise these days, especially on my way to class. 

My favorite dessert… hmmmm, coffee cake? I haven’t had that in a long time, but I distinctly remember how much I loved having coffee cake as a younger girl.

I know I should say yes, coffee (considering my last answer) but I’m not big on the beverage itself. It goes both ways for me. 

If I had the chance to go to one place, it’d be Sudan. There’s something special about going home to the place your parents found their feet and I haven’t yet had that experience, so I’d love to go!
