#personally i think every "social safety net" that we gatekeep behind complicated paperwork and eligibility rules should just be made universal similar to the concept of universal healthcare. the people who would need help will automatically have it and the people who wouldn't need help are just paying through taxes instead of directly. the rich pay their fair share and everyday people pay less overall. save a shit ton of money not having to do the whole hooplah of reviewing cases to see if people are "in need enough" to access basic necessities
