I just realised that Loki is actually the most interesting character in the MCU, and that they did nothing with him. Rewatching the first Thor movie, Loki is clearly a shitstirrer, but not in any way that a person wanting attention alongside their golden child sibling wouldn't be. He does things that have the potential to backfire, and things that do, but I don't think he was initially malicious. But, then the revelation that he is the Frost Giant prince of Jotunheim shook up where he thought he fit(or recognised he didn't quite fit).
I never realised how nefarious Odin was, or how manipulative his talk with Loki was... Loki asks what he is, and Odin deflects; Loki asks why they never told him what he was, Odin deflects; Loki asks he took him in the first place, Odin deflects, and when he is pressed admits to not simply saving him out of the goodness of his heart, but to prop him up as a king "to bring about peace". And when asked what this means for Loki now, given that this plan has gone out the window with Thor's banishment, and Loki talks about how he's felt less cared for, there is silence, and then the Odin Sleep, with no further inspection of Loki's situation after he wakes up.
Here's a question: How is Loki supposed to claim the Jotun throne from Laufey if he has never been made aware that he is in fact a Frost Giant? Also, how did Odin Know Loki was Laufey's son if he was abandoned?
Odin is an unreliable source for Loki's origin, and we never get to hear Laufey's side.
