These sketches show two possible directions I am exploring for an etched print. The first continues my car-based idea, focusing on movement through sweeping lines and heavy mark-making to suggest speed, direction, and the physical sensation of driving rather than a detailed vehicle form. The second sketch is based on a reference image of Niki Lauda. I was drawn to this image because of the intensity and emotion visible in his eyes, which I feel offers a strong contrast to the car imagery while still relating closely to movement and motorsport. Through this portrait idea, I want to explore how emotion, focus, and pressure can be communicated through line, especially in the eyes and facial expression. Together, these sketches help me consider how movement can be shown both physically, through motion and speed, and emotionally, through human experience and expression, which is something I want to push further in this project.
