EB2 || Snippet Numero Dos
It had been three – nearly four at this point – months since he and Yuuki had started their relationship, and not once had he gotten to take her out or get her any sort of gift like normal boyfriends would have by now. Not that he thought he was a normal boyfriend, he could count on many instances where he had done abnormal thinks to her, plus there was the fact that he was a vampire… but he’d have liked the chance to experience what it was human boyfriends did for their human girlfriends, even if he wasn’t exactly the lovey-type.
His eyes were locked on a book, but he wasn’t actually reading. It was more a ploy to trick Ichiru, who was sprawled out on his bed feeling exhaustion from being up and around all day claim his limbs, into thinking that there wasn’t anything on his mind . Letting out a yawn, the younger twin looked over, lounging now, one hand propping up his cheek. A know-it-all grin broke apart his lips. “Why, older brother, are you aware that your eyes are glazed over? You wouldn’t happen to be lost in thought, right?”
Broken free from his musings, the older brother in question turned his gaze to his younger brother and roommate; ever since Ichiru had returned – wouldn’t you know it, the same night Zero (in so many words) asked Yuuki to be with him – the Headmaster had decided to do all within his power to mend the relationship between the two brothers. Considering how close they’d been, it didn’t take much effort, even if both were quite different from when they were kids. They bickered often, but in the end neither could deny that they still cared a great deal for each other.
The silver-haired vampire closed his book and copied the position his brother made, mirroring his exact features except with an exceptionally deceptive grin on his face. “And what about you? Ever since returning to school, you seem rather distracted yourself.” It ate apart at each other’s resolve that, even after so much time passing, the other still could get under their skin enough to make them spill every detail. Retracting his imaginary fangs, Ichiru chuckled more to himself than to his brother.
Zero, satisfied with such an answer – or, lack thereof – sat up and glanced over at the alarm clock set on his beside table; it was nearly nine, nearly two hours after curfew. It would be a fruitless mission to find Yuuki now, as she’d probably gone to sleep already, having been staying up for most of each night doing homework and getting better-than-the-average-Yuuki grades nowadays. It was… relieving, though a bit too close for comfort as it was their last year of high school.
As the older Kiryuu was tied down to the fate of a Hunter, he didn’t get the option to go off and go to college like he’d have liked, though he was sure he could attend Cross Academy part-time as he prepared for his full-on Hunter’s license. As it stood, only eliminating Level E’s within radius of the school was getting bothersome and was interfering with his already messed-up sleeping pattern. He couldn’t wait to be rid of the turmoil most of his High School career had caused him.
There… was one exception to it all, though. As with everything else in his life, it was that doe-eyed, chocolate-brown haired partner of his.
It had taken another moment of silence to ensue between them – a strange mix of comfort yet, at the same time, growing more awkward as both boys merely stared off into space – before Ichiru chuckled again. Zero, confused as to what he’d done to humor his brother so, got up and stretched his arms over his head. Ichiru watched with a guarded expression, as if surveying the damage his older brother had taken in the past few years, before he sat up and rested his arms on his thighs, hunching over. “You know… it’s nearing four months now, right?”
Surprised, Zero raised an eyebrow at his brother, utterly confused. “Four months… for what—oh. Yuuki and I, you mean.” At Ichiru’s nod, Zero went rigid; he hadn’t thought to do anything at all! …was four months some sort of milestone? Lavender eyes searched the room as if the answer was hidden among the walls, which made Ichiru snort in mild amusement. “What’s so funny?”
At the inquiry, Ichiru burst into quiet laughter, his hand over his mouth muffling most of the noise. He’d almost forgotten that Yuuki and he both had absolutely no relationship know-how, and while he hadn’t either, he knew what it was like to fall in love with someone. “Well, older brother, you’re in luck; I happen to know that your girl has had her eye on that end-of-the-year ball, and I bet she’d be delighted if you asked her to go.”
End of the year… ball?
