The assessment is simple and easy to understand, also revealing that Rouje has set itself goals to progress as a responsible brand both enviromentally and socially. This makes the brand even more worthwhile and proviedes an opportunity for Rouje and all its supporters to make a positive impact as fashion actors.

Athletic-wear Alternatives to LuLu Lemon

*Note: There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. I tried to find companies that are as ethical as possible, but my research almost definitely missed something because I am human. If you have an issue with any of these companies/brands, please let me know and I will edit this post.*

Girlfriend Collective

This brand has a SUPER detailed, transparent about page that explains how they make their clothing. The page explains how their processes are eco-friendly and maps out where their materials come from. 

Their size range is XXS-6XL.

prAna

This brand is fair-trade certified. This means that their materials 100% come from farms that pay a fair wage, have safe working conditions, and do not use child labor. This brand uses organic cotton and hemp, recycled wool, participates in beach cleanups, and partners with charities.

Their size range is XS-XL

Yema Calif

This brand is owned by Yema Khalif from the Kibera Slums in Kenya and Hawi Awash from Ethiopia. Their brand is dedicated to helping orphaned children and 20% of all purchases goes towards this goal. 

Their size range is S-XL.

Kemetic Knowledge

The founders of this brand strive to draw attention to the ancient African Scholars of Kemet. Their about page details how white-washed western history is (ie the emphasis placed on Greek philosophers while Black, Indigenous, and other scholars/philosophers of color are ignored). 

Their size range is S-3XL

PRU Apparel

This Black-owned Brand draws inspiration for their designs from a fusion of the founders’ various cultures. Their name is an acronym for POWER REPRESENTATION UNITY.

Their size range is S-XL.

Culture Fit

This brand's mission statement is “Athletic Wear for the Culturally Conscious Woman.” Their designs are inspired by the founders’ West African culture/heritage.

Their size range is XS-XL. 

Glamourina

Their name is defined as “ A socially conscious, self-confident, bold, resilient, Unapologetic Black Woman.” This brand’s mission is all about providing culturally-appreciative and culturally-significant athletic wear to culturally conscious women of color.

Their size range is S-4XL.
