So I’m a mixture of mostly Native American, some Southern European, and a dash of West African. Beautifully brown me 😏
I’ve always been confused about what my specific racial makeup is. Mestiza only means a mixture. But of what? And the fucking U.S. Census has always given me so much stress over how to self identify. I’ve been tempted to just put Brown under the race category.
By looking at myself in the mirror I’ve always known I had native blood. From looking at my mother’s side of the family I knew I had Southern European ancestry. I’m surprised by the West African ancestry. And per the timeline in this report it’s very likely my West African ancestor born between 1750 and 1840 was a slave.
I’m slightly frustrated over how disconnected I feel with my ancestry but simultaneously hella proud of my worldly origins. 😄
