Robot Anti?? 👀!!!

sorry this took SO long to get to, i forgot, so thank u for reminding me!!

ANYWAY! let’s get to it.

so in this au, anti is an android (not like d:bh this is separate) sent from a horrible horrible future. basically the entire world was at war, with TONS of suffering and deaths and just. bad. when we finally ended it, the governments and people became obsessed with making the “perfect being.” anti, or, “Model ETH- 05” was sent back in time to collect data from humans to help create the perfect being.

some general info:

- chase gives the name “Ethos” to ETH- 05 so he snd the others can connect to the robot more, and have an easier time during appointments

- appointments are when Ethos would test different stimuli on humans (the egos) like pain, illness, drugs, and other types of things to help collect data for the perfect being. basically hes testing the suffer or comfort level the humans experience so they can make the future free of any suffering, and it “starts with perfection”

- not all appointments are torture but a lot are filled with painful testing

- all of the egos are kept in a clinic built specifically to test them in. it’s in the middle of no where, and they cannot leave past the fence (or potentially a magic shield???) that surrounds it. they’re usually stuck inside though :((

- each ego EXCEPT ethos has a chip inside their neck where ethos can administer electrical shocks or an emergency sedation if things get out of hand

- ethos is not evil. he is programmed to do this, but sometimes, he goes against his coding if he has enough strength to do so 👀👀

“ Henrik is simultaneously appalled and impressed at this man—this absolute no-name—acting like he has any say in this interaction. Because, unless he’s misremembering the events of the past ten minutes, this Chase Brody came looking for him, not the other way around. They are in his house, on his time, and he’s the only one who can decide whether to help him or not. ”

The house is much too quiet once evening comes, and Henrik grows restless with the book in his hands. It isn’t one of his, the fantastical story a far cry from his own periodicals, but he’d been urged to give it a try. Still, he sets the book facedown on the side table and pushes himself off the couch. It isn’t too late. He can still get some work in before retiring for the night, and perhaps if he busies himself with something worthwhile it will keep his mind off the silence.

His office is toward the front of their house, a large room filled primarily with stained oak furniture. A bookshelf lines the entire back wall, an arched window on the wall adjacent with its curtains pulled over the glass. Henrik bypasses the makeshift patient bed, a couch raised to hip-level, and takes a seat behind his desk. He’d left the lamp on earlier, the red shade casting warm light over the room.

It does not take long for him to become engrossed with his paperwork. He had been putting it off these past few days, and already the buildup is enough to last him a few hours.

Henrik quickly falls into a rhythm, eyes glazing over with the monotony of it all. At least now, after tonight, he will have a responsibility-free holiday tomorrow. But what a way to spend the Eve.

A knock on the front door breaks Henrik out of his reverie, loud and hurried and startling his heart at the suddenness of it all. It takes him a moment to react accordingly, tearing his focus away from what is left of the papers on his desk to the clock hanging on the wall beside him. It’s late, later than he expected to have stayed awake, and much too late for any one of his patients. He sighs as he stands, not wanting to have to turn away another family looking for a room. Thankfully tomorrow the inn will be open once more, once Sean comes back from his family in the North.

The knocking continues as he makes his way to the foyer, growing ever the more frantic the closer he gets, and Henrik frowns, a little put off by the insistence. He stands in front of the door and waits for a pause, the apology already on his tongue. When the pounding stops, he says, “Sorry, no rooms are available at the moment,” his voice raised to be heard past the wooden door. “The manager is away on holiday, he’ll be back—”

“What?”

Henrik stops, confused. He opens his mouth to try to clarify, but the voice continues.

“A-a room? What is this? I’m looking for a doctor—I had the name, shit, it’s something weird—something-stein or whatever!”

They stumble over their words, but sound healthy enough for Henrik to not feel bad for refusing to open his door. “My office closed at four, come back after tomorrow, I’m not open on the Solstice. Goodnight now.”

“No please, wait!” The very real panic in the voice roots him to the floor, and he clenches his jaw. “I’ve traveled all this way to find you, I’ve heard you’re the only person who can help me!”

Henrik has heard those words plenty of times before, and though he would rather not deal with whoever is desperate enough to bother him in the middle of the night while there are legal clinicians in the next town over, he compromises. Maybe that will be enough for them to leave.

“Alright, what is it? Broken bones, internal bleeding? You sound fine enough, you were healthy enough to make it here, what’s your problem?”

There’s silence for a long time on the opposite end of the door, he can hear his heart beating.

“It’s my ethos.”

Well, fuck.

Henrik opens the front door with a neutral expression, meeting eyes a much brighter blue than his own. The man on his porch is young, younger than himself at the very least, with disheveled clothes and a cap pushed low on his head. From what he can see, he looks a bit beat up—bruises on his hands, a scabbed-over scratch on his left cheek—but otherwise okay. The biting winter winds blow past them into the house, and the man shivers and pulls the torn jacket closer to himself. His shoes have a hole in the toe.

A vagrant, most likely. Lovely.

He’ll blame it on the holiday spirit that he opens the door wide and inviting and says, “Fine, dammit. Come inside, follow me, and take off that nasty coat before you sit anywhere.”

The smile he receives isn’t enough to lift the scowl from his own face.

The man takes the mug of tea from Henrik with both hands, immediately bringing it to his nose to inhale the clean scent before taking a sip. “Thank you so much,” he murmurs, and the physician waves him off while taking his place behind the desk once again.

Without the horrid coat and cap, he can make out a bit more of his visitor. He’s a slimmer man, which is to be expected of someone continuously on the road, yet retains a modicum of fitness to his form. The tips of his short hair are a faded grassy color, which is unusual enough for Henrik to make note of it, and in the light of his office he can see more evidence of a rough patch—hollowed cheeks and dark bags under his otherwise hopeful eyes.

At least he seems to be relaxing, albeit slowly.

Henrik lets the man enjoy his drink for a moment more before leaning forward and steepling his hands together atop the desk. “What is your name?”

“You’ve got a real funny accent.”

Henrik tilts his head to the side and stares him down without saying a word.

“I-I’m—my name’s Chase, sorry, um,” Chase says and fidgets in the chair. “Chase Brody?”

Chase Brody is written on a blank sheet of paper. He doesn’t have anything more official for this side of his work, rather wanting to keep these documents as off-the-record as possible. “Okay,” he sets the pen down, “And how did you hear about me? I like to keep track of who has my name in their mouth.”

“Why?”

“Why do you care?”

“I-I don’t know—”

“Can you answer the question please?” Exhaustion is starting to pull at his eyes, making him snappier than he is on a normal day.

Chase sets his mug down on the floor beside the chair, shaking his head. “I really don’t know, I didn’t…talk to anyone, I was just in some town and overheard a conversation, I…” he trails off and shakes his head again, wiping his palm on the side of his head. His hair looks greasy, and the motion just makes it all the more unkempt. “I didn’t realize you’d want to know, what does it even matter, listen! Can you help me or not!”

But he can. Of course he can. He knows there isn’t another in the country who knows more of the ethos than him, which is why he’s the one that has to deal with the insanity of people treating him like he’s the answer to all their problems. However, he has to prepare for their Solstice celebration early in the morning, and he needs to make sure Sean returns home safely, and he can’t be wasting time with some pushy vagrant coming to him in the middle of the night and expecting his help before he’s even been explained the situation.

Instead of saying all of that, though, Henrik forces a smile and says, “I would have to understand your, ah, issue, but most likely yes, I can.”

So, Chase tells him.

The sheet of paper slowly fills up as Henrik grows more and more intrigued.

“I’ve heard of this before, though…” Henrik says once Chase is finished with his telling, trailing off in thought as he opens the bottom drawer of the desk and takes out the small stack of papers there. “Your situation is much different than his.”

“Whose?”

“You say you cannot understand your ethos, correct?” A nod. “What do they sound like then? And when did this start?”

Chase frowns, wiping at his eyes. “They just sound like a stupid animal!”

“Hey,” Henrik snaps, feeling his own ethos’ immediate offense to those words.

“Sorry,” the vagrant says guiltily. “All I hear are growls, and roars, and I don’t even feel them! It’s like—like they’re just…an animal. Not—no longer my spirit.”

Henrik hums to himself, nodding along despite this growing sinking feeling that he will not know how to help this man. This is unheard of to him, for someone with no problems communicating to suddenly lose that connection with their ethos. Still, he writes down just an animal on the paper.

“And it’s been, what, months?”

“Months?”

“Since September,” Chase clarifies. “I know because I had just been kicked out of my house, and—” he chokes off his own sentence and buries his head in his hands.

Henrik drops the pen and leans back in his chair, looking at everything but his patient. He’s not very comfortable with people crying in front of him, especially strangers. “Okay, okay, calm down now.” A wet sniffle is his only response. “I will contact my fr—someone I know who has dealt with…this.”

Chase quickly raises his head, eyes red and wet. Gross.

“Fair warning, I did not help him. I do not know how to help you—”

“What?”

“—but I do not doubt that he will have some advice for you to follow.”

Henrik quirks an eyebrow in question, waiting for the man’s nod and his shaky agreement.

His ethos already knows what is about to happen; Henrik can feel their anxious energy, wanting so badly to manifest. He sends out a silent assent, allowing them to emerge from his sternum and flap their broad wings, landing on his outstretched forearm. Their talons are a little sharper than last time, but do not pierce the skin there. The eagle finally settles, a calm and powerful presence, and they cock their head to the side and stare at the young man sitting with his jaw dropped in awe.

The physician picks up a long white primary off the desk, tutting. “You always make such a mess when you’re out here.”

“They’re very pretty,” Chase breathes, and Henrik grunts noncommittally.

“They thank you. Now, may I?”

His ethos doesn’t need to hear his voice to know what to do, but Henrik guesses that Chase will be more at ease if he knows what’s going on. So, he directs to the raptor, “Please go to the stag, the one in the South, you know who I’m talking about. Pass on this message. I have a patient who has lost contact with his ethos, who can no longer communicate with them. Is there anything I or he needs to do? Thank you.”

There’s a second of calm silence. Then, the eagle blinks in understanding and pushes off his arm with a strong flap of their wings, dissipating into sparks and embers above his head. Henrik drops his gaze back down to the man in front of him. “I should hear back soon,” he says. “Now, would you like some more tea?”

That is!! So cool!!! So, Ethos is in the past and doing tests and stuff on the egos? Very Interesting. What are the other egos like? Or Ethos? I am very very interested for this idea!!

all six boys are as follows, note, i’m still developing their personalities so they may change later on! this is just so far:

jameson: he/him, straight and asexual. was taken from the 1920s into 2020 to test with the others. he has limited time powers, for example he can rewind one full day, or jump forward one full day. once he jumps forward though he is unable to go back. anyway! he’s pretty serious and just a little bit grumpy most of the time, he doesn’t like it here. jamie is very skilled with knives and guns and fists, and is fascinated by ethos even though at first, he hates their guts. jameson softens up over time, but for the most part hes pretty grumpy and just wants to read his books, and spends a lot of his days missing his own time. very protective of jackie.

chase: he/him, straight (?). the most easy going of the group. very soft spoken and extremely empathetic. he was the first to break through ETH- 05’s coding and get them to show some sort of emotion, and he was a BIG help in getting the others to actually like ethos. chase is always trying to make everyone laugh, keep their hopes up, but internally he is extremely afraid he won’t get to see his wife and child again. he has depression, but ethos makes sure he gets his prescribed medication to make his life at least a LITTLE easier on him. he and henrik are extremely close as they knew each other before they came to the clinic.

henrik: he/him, gay. henrik is ALWAYS trying to take care of the others along w chase, especially after appointments. he often forgets to take care of himself because of this. henrik has a lot of trouble sleeping, often has random panic attacks and has undiagnosed OCD. he is very kind and patient, but he’s always worrying about something. you can find him running around the clinic during the day checking the medication, checking on the egos, etc. if he doesn’t have something to focus on he will get extremely anxious so if he says he’s gonna take ur vitals for the third time today he’s gonna take ur vitals for the third time today.

jackie: he/they, gay. youngest of the group at 19, hes very bubbly and warm and pretty chill! he’s laid back most of the time, but it’s very easy to make him laugh as he kinda has that gen z humor where if u show tbem a picture of a can of beans that’s over saturated and says “B E aNS 👁👁” theyre gonna lose it. same w chase. anyway he has a few powers, he can do a little telekinesis, can (weakly) control water and metal, and is oddly ODDLY lucky. like theyve always got a four leaf clover on them or somethin. hes pretty brave, and is learning how to fight properly from jameson! catch them sparring while henrik goes !!!!!!!!!! when jamie knicks jackie’s cheek with a knife.

marvin: he/him, pansexual. FTM transgender! marvin is kinda the leader of their group, well, except for ethos. he is VERY clever, very quick on his feet, and holds far too many secrets. definitely very mysterious. marvin is very confident and has a soft voice, strong, and enjoys singing little songs ! he has powerful POWERFUL magic, including hypnosis, various spells, he can make plants grow/heal/die, bend light, water, and shadows, and many other things. he’s been studying for a very long time. he also is able to talk to and sense ghosts and other supernatural things ! marvin is by far the most stoic of the group, and although he may seem like a tough guy, he deep down loves the group sssoooo much, and would put his life on the line for all of them. both he, jameson, and jackie all have a second chip inside their skin which prevents them from using their magic unless permitted. if they try to use more than allowed, it will give them an electric shock until they stop. ethos has lowered their restrictions on magic once they complained of it building up, but they still are not really allowed to do much with their magic anymore :/

ethos: he/they/she/it, ethos wasn’t programmed to be a certain gender. and aro/ace, as most robots are in this future as they weren’t made for romantic love! hes kind of a prototype? a new kind of android the future hasn’t tested much on bc they were very eager for the creation of the perfect being. ethos starts out as very quiet and cold, he doesn’t know much about the egos’ personalities so he can’t do much w them. this changes as time goes on. because he wasn’t tested much, he can feel emotions if taught them, this mostly includes observing humans. since his creation hes been very lonely, and taught he is lesser than humans so a lot of times he’ll comfort himself by saying poetry or going through files or something. (thanks flora for giving the idea of ethos just babbling to himself at night when he feels his most sad or lonely!) ethos doesn’t smile or laugh, and when he does it’s either him mimicking one of the boys to make them comfortable or it’s genuine and he smiles for a second and then it goes back to normal. it’s a little odd to look at. anyway he doesn’t enjoy giving appointments, in fact he’ll go against coding once in a while and fake the data so the boys don’t have to suffer. this is bad news for ethos! which i will explain more on later :3 overall hes very sweet and comforting and just wants people to be safe. he loves taking care of people, especially when they’re sick so if one of the boys is sick it’s usually both ethos and henrik fussing over them in their own ways.

Oooh that robot au sounds really interesting!! :D Does Ethos look human or is he more of a "faceless mechanical being" type? Also, what does the thing about him going against his coding mean? Is he less or more cruel when he (it?) does that? :0c -A

Ethos looks pretty human for the most part! they have a human appearance, though his blood is silver and his eyes kinda change their hue of blue depending on an emotion or data hes gathering. he also has a strip on his temple about an inch long, which (now THIS part ib d:bh!) blue when hes calm, yellow when hes startled and red when something makes him afraid or stressed. there is a little bubble of light in there that is constantly moving back and forth, (think of what levels look like, with their air bubbles moving back and forth) which moves slower the closer to blue it is and REALLY fast if it’s on red.

when ethos goes agaisnt his coding, he FAR less cruel. he fakes data, or cuts appointments or he feels things he shouldn’t. if ethos goes agaisnt his coding it’s the most human he’ll be in that moment, but it a lot of times will end in a malfunction reset, which is extremely painful for ethos to go through.

chapter 1

“ He knows Anti should be laying down, taking it easy after getting shot like that, but they’d fought enough about it tonight. Jameson is letting him do what he wants, letting him deal with the potential consequences of his own actions. If he reopens the wound, Jameson will roll his eyes and tell him to drive himself to the hospital. He still cares, though, of course he does. ”

Sitting back down on the stool, bare feet propped up on the lower rungs, Jameson dips the brush in freshly cleaned water to continue his piece. The canvas is nearly too big for his easel, shaking when he presses against it, but he’s nearly finished. He’s excited to show it, never having completed something so quick before, but perhaps it is because he knows his subject like his very self.

He’s detailing the jacket with hints of red when a series of loud clangs comes from the kitchen, and he jumps in his seat bad enough to jerk the brush straight through center of the portrait. His jaw drops as he stares at the bright red streak marring the neck of the man, his work effectively ruined. Jameson straightens up, setting his brush and palette down beside him, and clenches his jaw instead. His disappointment can return later, after he investigates.

When he turns on the kitchen light he stops in his tracks, shoulders slumping as he takes in the scene before him.

They’d used a few pots and pans for their dinner earlier, and Jameson had left them to dry beside the sink. Now, however, each one is on the floor, the saucepan having slid all the way to where he stands in the entryway. In their place atop the counter now sits a large white eagle, a smattering of feathers littering his kitchen. One of the fuzzier ones is stuck on an antler of the stag curled up beneath the sink, who snorts at his entrance. Jameson connects to his ethos, sending out a silent question while the eagle cleans under their wing.

Is this the doctor’s?

A wave of affirmation comes through the bond, and he runs a hand over his beard.

Okay, he signs after a moment. What did he have to say?

Not that he’s particularly worried, but this is certainly out of the ordinary for Henrik, who he knows prefers to keep more to himself. He hasn’t even been in contact with the man in over a year now, has not seen him in even longer, so to be visited by his ethos at this time of night, it must be something important.

Jameson’s stag stands up as he moves to sit at the small table in the corner of the room, the cervus nosing at his hands as they pass on the message.

An ethos does not speak, not by way of making use of human vernacular. Their language instead takes the form of communicating through emotions, gut feelings, and reactionary responses. Sometimes an image, if what they wish to articulate is too complex to be contained to the abstract. For this, Jameson sees a man he does not know, scratched up and tearful, with a sense of familiarity tied in with the doctor’s inquiry. He nods to himself, running his hand up to the stag’s antlers and picking off that feather. He blows it off his finger.

Thank you, he signs with his other hand. Henrik’s bird is just staring at him from across the kitchen, waiting for a response to return home with.

He thinks about it, tapping his feet on the tile floor. He’s no physician, he isn’t trained in the ways to help another person, he’s just some man who happens to have relevant experience on the matter. Though, his lost contact was never so much of an issue rather than a mere frustration, a short hindrance that went away as soon as he began to learn how to speak with his hands. He does understand the despair that comes with a broken bond, the weeks after the accident made him fear he would never feel his ethos again.

It wasn’t a one-way thought, either. Jameson can remember, even after nearly a decade, the panicked bleatings coming from his ethos’ manifested form. That, and the long periods of silence once they dissipated into his chest again. But he could never feel them, not until he could actually communicate again.

That had always intrigued and stumped Henrik, once Jameson had told his story. In the physician’s eyes, it did not make any sense that an ethos, a being who spoke through nonverbal channels and only required their human’s thoughts in return, could ever fail to communicate with them. Jameson had posed a thought that an ethos’ ability could directly rely on the human’s own, meaning that when he went mute, so technically did his stag. Henrik had called him a genius, the only compliment he’s ever received from the man.

Perhaps, and though he hates to feel hopeful at the expense of a stranger’s misfortune, but perhaps this will be the chance to test that theory. He grabs the stag’s attention.

Please tell the eagle to return with this message, he says through the link, and large brown eyes look up at him patiently. You remember what we thought before, just let your patient know of my story. I give you permission to tell it. Maybe…let him know none of this is for sure, to save my own skin if it does not work. He nods to show he is finished.

Jameson doesn’t know when or how his ethos connects to the doctor’s as the stag does not even turn to face the other, but once the eagle spreads his wings he’s sure they have his reply. Before they dissipate into sparks, the eagle lets out their nasally call, too loud in the silence of the small hours, and he cups his hands over his ears, grimacing.

Then they’re gone, and Jameson is left with his ears ringing.

“Did I just hear a bird?”

The voice startles him, not having heard the man walk up. He’s looking down at all the pots on the floor. Jameson snaps his fingers to get his attention.

Anti, he signs, the letter A passing over his mouth. You should be asleep.

Anti’s leaning against the doorframe, one bare foot over the other and his arms crossed over his chest. His eyes are tired, half-lidded, with a resting frown beneath them. He’s taken his shirt off since Jameson had sent him to the room earlier that night, showing off the thick layers of gauze wrapped around his stomach and torso. He can see a bit of red-brown beginning to touch the topmost strips of the bandages. I agree, Anti replies, motions always a bit slower, more hesitant, wanting to make sure he gets them correct. But someone woke me up. He raises an eyebrow.

Don’t try to blame me, Jameson huffs. That bird you heard was a very important message.

Am I to believe they threw all these on the floor, too?

Actually, yes. Anti laughs at that, bending down to pick up the saucepan by his feet, then groans at the movements as he straightens up, pressing a hand to his stomach. Jameson quickly stands, striding over to lay his hand on the man’s shoulder, gently taking the pan from him and blindly setting it on the table behind him.

Okay? he questions, face pinched in concern. He knows Anti should be laying down, taking it easy after getting shot like that, but they’d fought enough about it tonight. “I’m fine,” Anti murmurs. His laughter is gone, but he doesn’t look angry, more reserved than anything else. Good.

Jameson puts all the pots back in the sink as Anti sits down at the table, noting that his stag is gone. He hadn’t even noticed them spark away, though he feels a rush of reassurance from his sternum when he reaches out for them.

Anti clears his throat, and Jameson turns to look at him, leaning back against the counter with his hands folded limply at his chest.

What was the message? he asks. I don’t know anyone with an avian.

Jameson smiles small. It was nothing you need to worry about. Just helping out an old friend.

An old friend, he mocks, eyes narrowing sharply and head tilting to the side. Should I be concerned? That you’re having— a pause “—midnight correspondences with some tramp?”

Caught off guard and finding his language amusing, Jameson laughs. It’s an awkward, gravelly choking sound, but Anti has never cared. He’s teasing him, albeit terribly, but he thinks that was an attempt at lightening the mood. Nonetheless, Jameson goes to stand in front of him, the corner of his mouth twitching when Anti pinches the bottom edge of his vest, holding him there.

Go to sleep. I’ll be heading there shortly myself. I’ll change your bandages in the morning, they will last until then.

With only one hand free, Anti refuses aloud. “What were you still doing awake in the first place?”

Painting, he answers shortly, biting the inside of his cheek at the reminder. He had been looking forward to showing Anti how well he had captured his likeness, yet the gift for tomorrow’s—or rather, today’s—Solstice will more than likely find a home in a landfill rather than on their wall.

“What’s wrong?”

I kind of…ruined it.

Anti hums. “Can I still see it?”

Instead of answering outright, Jameson pulls him by his hand around the corner and into the study. His easel sits in the middle, the paint on his palette already half-dried, and he watches Anti’s back as the man steps up to his own portrait. He hovers his index finger over that red streak, that one frustrating imperfection, and doesn’t speak for a moment. With his back turned, Jameson can’t even say anything to him to break this embarrassing silence.

“I like it.”

He perks up at that, surprised, and he meets Anti’s eyes as the man looks over his shoulder at him. You do?

“Yeah, it’s very good. Thank you,” he says.

Anti grabs Jameson’s hands with his own, and Jameson glares at him. He’s told him before how incredibly rude it is to do just that, that if Anti wants to speak there are other ways of getting his attention without forcing his silence. Still, he relaxes, raising one eyebrow to ask, What?

“I don’t really give a shit,” he whispers, and Jameson gives him a look, unimpressed. Anti laughs. “It’s a great gift, dear,” he rectifies. “I can tell it took you a while.”

Jameson doesn’t care enough to correct him.

“What are we doing tomorrow?”

He tugs his hands out of Anti’s grip with another annoyed look at the man’s otherwise sweet smile. I have a show tomorrow, late at night, he reminds him for the tenth time. And you are staying here, healing. You’re not going to your easy, they’ll kill you. Or I will.

Anti curls two fingers against his own mouth mockingly. Cute. You should stay here, too, in that case, he signs with a grin. “Skip the show.”

Marvin would fire me. It’s sold out for the Solstice, I can’t miss it.

He can tell Anti is getting tired once more, leaning against him. The man has lost all patience with signing himself. “What outfit?”

Jameson leans back, taking in a breath. I guess you’ll see tomorrow.

Anti is a respected man, a dangerous man, one who thrives in the illegal underground markets and has no issue making others do his bidding with nothing more than a look and a quick flash of his ethos’ form. Jameson has seen it first hand, at this point he himself holds the same reputation. But when witnessing the man toss his arms around his shoulders and tiredly whine into his neck, Jameson thinks of him more as a pretty nuisance.

He would never say that, however.

He snaps his fingers, and Anti pulls away. Let’s go change those bandages.

“I thought we were doing that tomorrow.”

Changed my mind. We’re up now anyways, might as well get this over with, he signs. Are you going to sit still when I clean it this time, or should I get my ties?

With a wink, Anti says, “You should grab the ties.”

Jameson rolls his eyes, turning to head to the back room while sending Anti to the tub. He joins him in the bathroom with two he doesn’t normally wear, gifts from people no longer alive, and sees that Anti has already set out their makeshift first aid kit.

He’s on one knee in front of Anti sitting at the edge of the tub, arms around his torso as he ties the man’s hands behind his back with the yellow plaid fabric, when Anti whistles to get him to meet his eyes. “Happy Solstice,” he says, and Jameson doesn’t respond. He just grabs the other tie off his knee and shuts him up.
