- so doc and grian are friendly rivals. grian stole something from him (treasure) and messed with his prized possession (his bush)
- doc at first was Pissed with grian but after a while forgave him. no grian does not know this because doc is a) too stubborn and b) it’s funny
- star crew (doc, x, keralis, false, bdubs, etho) and sahara crew (g, iskall, pearl, impulse, ren, tango) like to fuck with each other
- also impulse Definitely has a thing for bdubs and etho
- etho and bdubs Definitely have a thing for impulse
- but neither side understand this. why? because etho and bdubs flirt with impulse by uh. Capturing him and trying to get him to join their crew. also with violence. Impulse is getting Very mixed signals
- also tango is down Bad for jimmy, okay. we’re talking INCREDIBLY down bad
- to point tango will stay up late and lean over the ship to gaze at the ocean with a lovesick sigh
- it’s at this point that sirens were mentioned, and I’d like to point out some entertaining details.
1) Tango would not be affected by sirens. Why? Because he’s gay and Very Committed to Jimmy.
2) Ren would also not be affected because he’s in gay gay homosexual gay with Martyn.
3) Cleo and Pearl would not be affected. Cleo is too girlboss and Pearl would just sing back to the sirens: “I can do that too! :D”
4) The only three (or four if you count Mumbo) who would be affected are Grian, Iskall, and Impulse. Yes they are Gay but they’ve got ✨relationship issues✨
- when mumbo joins the crew, pearl teaches him their sea shanties but purposefully gives him a few wrong lyrics just to mess with him
- grian gets to wear high heeled boots and has a corset because I Said So
- he also has prof beak as his beloved parrot friend
- except he’s not so beloved when he decides to hang around mumbo and choose him over grian >:(
- iskall has his bionic eye, though there’s more steampunk influence to it. he was involved in an accident :)

god they are doing SO well in the current timeline,,, much better that mumscarian, I can tell you that much JFGFJHF
we've also got some :eyes: things coming up with them :eyes: which is fun. hope you're ready for some angy impulse and etho hehe. very excited for a fic where all three of them kinda get a more central role to play,,,
also I just think that they're all very soft with each other. like, they've taken a LOT of time to rebuild the trust between the three of them and work out any past hurts,,, also sometimes I think about how etho stole the watchers book from dogwarts to give to bdubs as a way of showing his loyalty to him and wail. god etho's entire backstory just makes me wail,,,, after going so long bouncing between sides, sneering at the thought of loyalty because look where that landed him he finds impulse and bdubs and decides that these two are worth the risks,,,, sobs
and pearl has 100% given etho and bdubs shovel talks. if she finds out they hurt her dad again she Will sic tilly on them.

Impulse likes to think that the three of them have settled into some kind of routine. Sure, they’ve agreed to take things slow as they try to work out themselves and how they all fit together. But it’s been a month or two and he thinks it’s safe to say they’ve made a routine.
Since Impulse has the biggest home, date nights are hosted at his house whenever the three decide to stay in. Which… happens quite frequently.
It almost feels like he’s a teenager again, ordering pizza and watching movies on his pull out couch. He even snags some candies from iDimpy, making sure to keep a healthy stock of butterscotch for Bdubs and mints for Etho.
But these nights are the ones that Impulse holds close, the nights where the three of them curl up together, limbs entangled and messy. It’s hard to tell who starts and who ends. These nights are the ones where the three of them can stay in pajamas and give each other lazy little kisses while some crappy horror movie plays in the background.
Though perhaps Impulse’s favorite part of the night isn’t even the night itself.
It’s the morning.
Naturally, he’s an early riser. It comes with the territory of running two shops seven days a week. And out of the three of them, Impulse is the very first to wake. And when he wakes up, it’s to Bdubs’s fluffy brown hair in his mouth and Etho’s arms around his shoulders.
It never fails to create that warm fluttery feeling in his chest. And he smiles, all lovesick and dopey, so wide until his cheeks hurt.
“Someone’s got that lovesick look on his face again.” Etho’s groggy voice murmurs by his ear, and Impulse playfully huffs.
“I think I’ve earned the right to be a little lovesick.” He replies, tone lighthearted and fond.
“I never said you didn’t.” Etho comments, a lazy smile forming on his face. “I just can’t resist an opportunity to tease you.” He chuckles softly, moving to press a kiss to Impulse’s forehead. “Good morning honey bear.”
Impulse laughs (it’s more of a snort really) at the name. “I thought we put the cheesy names behind us.”
“Oh absolutely not. I will never let go of them, only because it makes Bdubs pretend angry.” Etho answers swiftly, sounding far too pleased.
“Well Bdubs is going to be for real angry if you two blabber mouths don’t stop talking so loud!”
Etho and Impulse look down to see Bdubs staring at them with one eye open, an obvious pout on his face.
“Whoops, sorry Bdubs.” Impulse apologizes with a soft chuckle. Bdubs merely grumbles in response, burying his head even further into Impulse’s shoulder.
“You’re forgiven. Only ‘cuz your morning voice is so handsome Impy.” Bdubs mutters. “But Etho you’re on thin ice!” He declares, making Etho snort. Silence rings for a moment before, “…you will be forgiven in exchange for a kiss.”
“If my snookums requests of me,” Etho says dramatically, leaning over Impulse to press a kiss to Bdubs’ cheek. He earns a pleased hum in return and assumes he’s forgiven.
Readjusting his hold on Bdubs, Impulse finds himself moving to get comfortable against Etho once more before drifting back to sleep.
so. with the completion of “off with his head”, I think it’s time to share some lore. as much as I wanted to include more backstory on etho and bdubs, it couldn’t work into the main series. and it’ll be a while before I can jump into their story.
to solve this issue, I come to tumblr to expand and give some backstory.

for this, we won’t be starting in our current timeline. we’ll be starting about nine years before. and we won’t be focusing on etho and bdubs. we’ll be focusing on etho and impulse.
etho is 28, impulse is 30. see, etho starts out as a member of xisuma’s police force. and it’s important to note what etho’s view of the world is like at this point. because he looks at morality as very black and white. either there’s good people, or there’s bad people. there is no in between. but we’ll return to that later.
impulse is a witness to a petty crime, etho meets him. they get along pretty well and go out for a few drinks together. they become friends and hmmm there’s some sparks flying. except… they lose contact after a night of drunken fooling around. it’s your typical “I’ll call you later” except the “later” part never comes.
so etho goes off, putting his attention to his job and impulse to other things.
enter bdubs three years later. bdubs is 29, impulse is 34.
and scar is running for mayor. bdubs and impulse meet by chance, right around the time impulse is attempting to start up iPawn. and bdubs comes in, helping him set it all up. and in turn, impulse helps bdubs out with different ways to market scar’s campaign.
it’s a great partnership! impulse’s shop is taking off, scar is getting more support. and oh wow impulse is pretty sweet guy, uh oh bdubs is feeling something for him, and now they’re kind of going out!
except… scar makes a mention that they’re in need of funds for the campaign. and bdubs… he gets a bad idea.
surely impulse won’t mind if he takes some money to fund scar’s campaign. he’ll pay him back and everything!
impulse finds out. and he’s not happy. bdubs’ actions damage their relationship. and once scar finds out, he offers to pay it all back. though, someone beats him to it. see, scar isn’t the only one running for mayor.
so is scott.
and scott’s family pays impulse the money back… as long as impulse will vote scott instead of scar.
and that only serves to fracture bdubs and impulse’s relationship even more.
it’s around this time coincidently, that etho pops back up. during those past three years, etho rises through the ranks, becomes a detective. and he’s successful. but that all comes crashing down with a single case.
the case etho works is a messy one, a serial killer. it’s chaotic, all over the place. etho and his team are being led in one direction only to be spun in a different one. it’s a wild goose chase, full of dead ends and loose threads.
there’s only a few witnesses, even fewer suspects. and one of those witnesses is etho’s best friend. they grew up together, and etho has always thought of this friend as a good person. when his coworkers bring up this friend as a suspect, he denies them.
and nothing gets him to believe them until he catches his friend in the act. it’s enough to shake his entire world view and it’s messy.
etho quits the force, and who’s doorstep does he show up on? impulse’s. and impulse, who’s just been betrayed by one of the most important people to him, offers his home. etho crashes with impulse for a while, turns to alcohol to cope with everything that’s happened. his entire world view has been flipped upside down.
and he does that for a while. until impulse says enough is enough and drags etho to a newly formed dogwarts. he had heard from ren that he needed members and etho needs a job.
so impulse introduces etho to ren, and etho finds himself working with dogwarts. and it’s while working with dogwarts that etho starts to find a taste for chaos. he starts to lean into this idea of “who cares if I’m good or bad, as long as I’m thriving on the chaos.”
and scott (who is obviously not mayor) catches wind of etho working with dogwarts and wants information. etho says “why not” and spills some info, it’s his first real act of chaos, of playing to more than one side.
he meets cleo by chance, right before scar’s election. so early days of crastle. and hey, cleo seems pretty fun, let’s hang with her for a bit. so now he’s split. bdubs joins them Officially during scar’s campaign, and yk. the closet meeting and at first etho really does see bdubs as a way of getting info on scar for ren.
except he falls for bdubs and suddenly betraying him isn’t so easy anymore.
AND THEN ETHO IS EXPOSED. and bdubs knows, and scar is throwing etho out and who can he turn to?
impulse.
etho bunks with impulse again after everything (he moved in with bdubs and can’t go back), and the entire situation has bdubs thinking of impulse and he works himself up to see him. etho is out (meeting with scott) and when impulse opens the door, bdubs throws himself at impulse and collapses in his arms, apologizing like crazy.
they haven’t really spoken since the night impulse confronted him. and now he’s going to see him to apologize.
and impulse is confused because all etho told him was that his position was compromised, he needed a place to stay. but bdubs tells impulse everything and ignoring how badly it hurts that the two people impulse wanted most chose each other, he makes up with bdubs and comforts him.
etho comes back when bdubs is still there, and it turns awkward. very quickly. but impulse makes them sit down, and the two of them hash everything out.
and then the three of them agree to sit down and start over. get to know each other for real, no secrets, no alternative motives. just them. and they give the three of them a shot.

just imagine like the three of them being disgustingly domestic together, they’re already an established relationship in the au and they all live together. etho as this lil shapeshifter guy and bdubs as this living moss hybrid and impulse as a dwarf and think of all the cuddles…. etho frequently shapeshifts into a fox and will curl up on impulse’s tummy and bdubs will nuzzle into the crook of impulse’s neck…. SOBS
but I also like this idea of impulse finding tango, a phoenix, hurt and bringing him to his home to take care of him and wails. I mean, that idea can absolutely still work as a /p interaction and 🤔
I’m watching Impulse’s second episode and “We have to kinda go through and pick who do we want to like us”, “I want Etho”, “Oh the rest we’ll just play by ear”. They only care about Etho, everyone else could go either way. You unintentionally predicted EthDubPulse.
