Etrepa decade headcanons:
(Note: I’m writing a fic looking at the events of the series from Ekalu’s perspective. She actually interacts with her soldiers, so I need to know something about who they are. We know almost nothing about any of them from the books (other than that Eight is Ekalu’s attendant), so this is like 95% me making things up wholesale.)
Etrepa One - Decade leader. She idolizes Ekalu and both hopes and fears that someday she herself might be promoted to lieutenant. She takes the shifts she has on watch with Ekalu very seriously.
Etrepa Two - The one with the most sewing experience. She’s the one that Eight brought Ekalu’s jackets to for adjustments. Her background isn’t in clothing alterations, but she was up for the challenge. It took a couple of tries to get things just right, but she’s proud of the fact that she did.
Etrepa Three - When Ekalu was promoted and needed new things to befit her new position but couldn’t be spared from Mercy of Kalr to go shopping herself, Three is the one who was sent with Ekalu’s shopping list. She appreciates things that balance form and function. Cushions should look nice, but they shouldn’t be so decorated that they can’t be used.
Etrepa Four - She loves to cook and is in charge of Ekalu’s meals.
Etrepa Five - She appreciates that life as a soldier means that she never has to worry about what she should be doing at any point. She has her assigned tasks and gets them done and is happy with this. If she’s ever forced to make significant decisions she gets uncomfortable.
Etrepa Six - A bit of a gossip. She makes sure she gets the news from the other decades and shares it with her decade mates. She enjoys the drama between Ekalu and Seivarden more than she probably should, but she will always take Ekalu’s side in it.
Etrepa Seven - She’s jealous of the fact that Ekalu was promoted to lieutenant and this jealously turns to a closely guarded resentment. Her decade mates know she isn’t particularly happy, but no one is quite sure why. She is one of the three that leaves.
Etrepa Eight - Ekalu’s personal attendant for everything other than making her meals. She is initially wary of the whole situation - what should she do with a baby lieutenant who definitely isn’t a baby? - but quickly grows fond of her lieutenant. Eight appreciates the fact that Ekalu is adapting quickly to her new role but isn’t afraid to admit when she doesn’t know something (and then take the appropriate steps to learn). Eight is proud of her lieutenant and is proud that she gets to serve her and support her.
Etrepa Nine - Close friends with Etrepa Ten. They’re probably lovers. When Ten decides to leave, Nine goes with her.
Etrepa Ten - Ten is one of the soldiers that Mercy of Kalr had rescued from its previous officers and came back with Ship’s promise that the new captain is totally different. Ship was right. Fleet Captain is like no other captain. But Fleet Captain also gets them into more nonsense than Ten is really ready to deal with. When she is given the chance to leave, she takes it.
