So, I feel I need to share this with all of you. Today I shipped out the Evfra plushie to his new home, but please take the few seconds required to watch the video and read this post about shipping prices.
The box I planned to use for Evfra was 16in x 12in x 12in in size. When I put that size into the shipping info to print the label, the price came to over $42. That appalled me and I knew that wasn’t right. I was shipping this 3lb box within my country from Virginia to Utah. So, I checked what would happen if I literally cut the box down 3in in height… and as you can see in the video the price went down all the way to $15. And keep in mind, these prices are JUST for the shipping fee. These prices do not cover the cost of the box, tape or any other packing material - or the cost of insuring a package worth more than $100. If I didnt have a box cutter, my customer would have been WAY overcharged because of 3in. Sure, the box isn’t pretty anymore, but its efficient in cost and structure.
I wanted to share this with you all to better showcase just how outrageous shipping costs can be, even with domestic shipping, and how it’s very rarely in our control. Now just imagine how bad this price changes when I try to ship internationally… when ordering from an artist or small business, please keep this post in mind when you see their shipping costs. We gain nothing from our shipping fees, and sometimes we even lose a bit in the process, but I promise I will always try to give you guys fair pricing as best as I can - just like I did for this box.
