I really love the designs you're thinking of for your etsy store! I think being able to customise the prints is a great idea, because a lot of people have words that really inspire them, and it would give them an opportunity to have that in a pretty design. Good luck!!
Thanks for the feedback!! I’ll add a customisation option for the create print, then, because the others are really tough to adjust like that :D
your designs are great! from the three designs you've posted, i like the third one the best. the first two were just a little simple?? but they're still v nice. customization is great as well but you should totally charge more for it heh. and as for other quotes, anything motivational would be great to hang on the wall :D
Thank you so much!! I’ve been hearing that a Lot so I think I’ll add more designs with some pizzazz in the background.
And yeah, I’ll definitely charge more for custom ones! Probably around $8 :D
I’ll pop in some more motivational quotes-- I think I’ve got to include the classics like “If you can dream it, you can do it” & “she believed she could, so she did”.
So while losing stuff in plain sight I’ve had to put off the update, and while all that was happening Etsy is adding new fees for fucking nothing and talking about subscriptions. From my understanding is if I want time stuff to be advertised I need to pay them a subscription fee?? Like fuck that. I’m a super small part time business that I’m trying to grow into a full time thing and I won’t be able to do that if I’m losing out on money because of these changes. Like I based my prices off of materials and a fraction of my time, fuck I’m pretty sure I’ve lost out on money for being super generous with my shipping costs. If this does happen then I’m either going to have to up my prices and actually include shipping in said price or move to a different site....it’s not like I ordered a bunch of business cards and stickers saying which site to find my shop at or anything....
Hello! I saw your post about the Etsy designs and thought I would answer. My favourite is the create design because it has the extra ink stroke behind it and it also feels more visually balanced and interesting than the other pieces. I would love to be able to customise what it says, but then again some people might want big quotes that won't fit into a design, just depends how many words you will allow people to put on there? Other quotes would be like other motivating things 1/2
Like "hello beautiful" or "work hard, play harder" or just cute little things so when you walk into a room or open your planner you see them and it's cute and uplifting. I hope that helps!!! 2/2
Thanks so much for the feedback! For that one, I might limit it to one word of 10 characters to make sure that doesn’t happen :D
The “Dream On” one is actually a lil more in depth than it looks, but because it’s so far zoomed out you can’t see the paint effect/drips/etc., but I totally get what you mean on the Be Happy one!
And thank you so much for those ideas! I’m definitely going to try my hand at creating them ^-^
July has been a really strong month sales-wise, I'm working full-time at the moment so it's tricky finding the time to complete made-to-order items! But I'm loving every second of it, it's so nice having positive feedback and kind words from customers, and I'm thrilled that sales have picked up a lot over the last few weeks. Bring it on!
Etsy needs to bring back feedback for buyers because there are too many assholes trying to rip off sellers. I don't care if sellers think it's an inconvenience and Etsy should care about protecting their sellers--those gullible women spreading their message of just how great it is when you become a new domestic instead of contributing to the real world--from crazy buyers who don't know the difference between art and craft and vintage and just plain old. Sellers have to live in fear of buyers who:
will claim they never received their item, while the package they claim to have never received is next to their computer as they're typing threatening messages to the seller about destroying them,
forget they are unsatisfiable brats, or is it bitches, who don't understand how taxing it was for the seller to whip out a custom order for their daughter's fat caboose,
will leave negative feedback for the coffee stain they "discovered" on the vintage item they bought on Etsy that they tried on and wore to breakfast,
will leave negative feedback for items that don't arrive the day after they purchased it,
think that shipping costs, like, a dollar,
think that everyone on Etsy is a new domestic who does not contribute to the real world, so they shouldn't be treated like human beings,
buy their items with the intent of "borrowing" their ideas,
I'm sure I'm forgetting some bullet points. Submit a few?
Oh, wait, Etsy needs the buyer's money, so it doesn't matter what abuses sellers have to put up with--
This might not be the most perfect thing I've written, and it might not make much sense! I feel so let down by the new changes Etsy have made, so I've tried to explain why this is.
I've had issues before with customers, where they've wanted to leave feedback but couldn't figure out how to do it. I agree that Etsy needed to make changes. However, I am seriously disappointed by the changes they've made. The original process was too complicated, and wasn't obvious at all. When you sign in, you're prompted to leave feedback, and you can leave it if you so choose. It wasn't a perfect system, but it did the job. No navigating around different sections in 'My accoun't, no waiting period. I'd have customers leave really happy excited reviews as soon as their orders arrived in the post. This made me really happy, and as a seller it's satisfying to know that your customers appreciate your effort and work.
The new system meant that the aforementioned excited customer, willing to give a happy review, had to wait TEN DAYS to leave a review. This means I will have to prompt her to leave it, which I don't want to do. As a seller, I shouldn't have to remind customers to leave feedback for me. It affects the relationship I have with them. I don't want to pester people so I get positive reviews - it should be the first thing that occurs to them to do, and it should be quick and easy to do so. The new system means that the initial excitement has gone, and now my feedback ratings will drop because customers either won't bother to leave reviews or will forget to leave one.
In addition, I loved being able to leave feedback for customers. I like having conversations with the people who buy my items, and as a thank you for their custom, I enjoyed leaving positive feedback for them. This leaves both of us feeling happy with the transaction - I say thank you to them, so they say thank you to me. Sellers now cannot leave feedback for customers, which really disappoints me. I can't leave feedback on someone's profile saying how much of a joy it was to do business with them, how they paid promptly, how they came up with fantastic custom request ideas. Nothing. Equally, I can't leave feedback if someone has been a problem, has been reluctant to pay, or has tried to squeeze discounts or freebies out of me. I have no say in the matter. I now, as a seller, have no voice when it comes to praising my customers publicly. I always message people to say thank you, but it's not the same.
Etsy have replaced positive, neutral and negative feedback options with a 5 star rating. This rating leaves me open to negative or harsh feedback at the customer's whim, which I can't respond to! On Amazon for example, if a customer leaves an unfair comment then you can respond to explain your side of the story. Also, the old system meant positive meant positive. Now, a perfectly decent order might not be rated 5 stars, even though there was nothing wrong with it. I could have done everything right, but a customer would think it was worthy of 3 or 4 stars. This variation could lead to feedback dropping unnecessarily. Etsy have also scrapped any feedback left over 12 months ago, so any lovely reviews left a year ago will now no longer show up.
The changes Etsy has made have not been received well. There's a discussion thread that's now 340 pages long, where sellers and customers are expressing how frustrated and disappointed they are.
So it's now been ten days since I had my message from my lovely customer asking about how to leave feedback, and I suspect I won't get a review after all. The delay between receiving the product and being able to give a review is too long. Customers will forget, and I shouldn't have to chase people up to give me nice reviews. The easy, pleasant communication I have with my customers has been scrapped, and I am so annoyed. I have loved every second of being an Etsy seller since last November, and now I feel so let down by the company that inspired me in the first place. People who choose to leave me feedback will now find it difficult to do so. Etsy are looking into sending email reminders for customers, which would work really well. But this won't be added for at least a few weeks, and in the mean time I feel really let down.
