General guideline/ etiquettes for roleplaying
* Stay in character (OoC-text or dialogues belong in brackets)
* No retractions! You can´t "undo" your actions once written. I don´t care if you flipped off the monster or destroyed the plot-relevant item "as a joke", you´ll have to live with the consequences. (except when you put it in brackets and thus mark it as OoC, of course).
* When I write +++ you stop typing. I don´t know if I´ll need this at all, but I´ll use it when I´m writing a longer paragraph that concerns all or most player characters and is very important. I´ll also use it when there´s too much I have to reply to at once. It´s the equivalent of the spinny thing on youtube-videos. It means I´m "buffering".
* When you perform actions on other players it´s always an attempt, except they go along with it. You can´t just grab another player and throw them out a window. You´ll first have to successfully roll against their strenght when they oppose you and successfully roll strenght and dexterity to determine whether you can even lift them off the ground or hit the window.
* Don´t try to be the center of attention all the time. Let others have their playtime without intererrupting ever other sentence. I´ll make sure everyone gets their share of time, don´t worry.
* Player knowledge does not equal character knowledge. Let´s say your character is in the entry hall and something interesting happens with two other characters in the garden. Don´t let your character run all the way there - why would they? They don´t know what´s going on, unless they heard a really loud noise. And even then the question is whether it would be a smart idea to run there at all.
* This one is tricky because I don´t know of any group that successfully manages to do this, buuut: Try to respect the mood. Don´t be the one who goes "peep!" when the teacher tells the class to be quiet for a minute, if you know what I mean. Let a sad/scary/intense scene play out, if possible.
* Altogether: Don´t be an asshole.
If you should have little experience with roleplaying and are in the mood for something funny, I recommend watching The Gamers, which is a very accurate representation of roleplaying.
